Power steering hose leak
I have a 2008 Acura TL Type S and the power steering hose started to leak. This caused smoke in the engine bay since it was burning up on the cat converter.
I know there was a recall on this issue. Does the recall only pertain to Acura TL base models?

Anyway, I called Acura customer care and they ran my VIN# and it wasn't in the recall. So they just noted my account. That's all. Sucks for me since had to fork out $$$.

^I guess you answered your own question.
Being the recall is for 273,000 '04-'08 Acura TL as well as the RL, I'd say you're covered, but you should have received a recall notification.
Enter your VIN:

For those who's TL's that wasn't on the list, better watch out for signs of the P/S hose leak.

Some TL-S are specifically excluded. No one has offered a reasonable explanation as to why AFAIK.
The Recall is on the TSB page. When you open the link below, follow the access instructions at the top, then access "TSB 08-016: 2004-08 TL: Safety Recall: Power Steering Feed Hose Leak"

Doesn't make sense to me. One explanation was that the hose routing/shape was different. Then a member showed (iirc) that the replacement part in the recall was the same size/shape as the 3.5L OE part.

I'm confused to, thought I'd qualify for the recall since that's what the recall was for. Bad hoses that can cause a fire. I've looked at pictures of the replaced P/S hose online and the new hose they replaced my car with. They look the same.
I'm also curious to if I wasn't on the list, shouldn't the P.S hose been to last longer than 4 years?
Here's the new part number they replaced it with.
53713-SEP-A14
So fellow TL owners who didn't get on the recall list. You may want to keep an eye on your P/S hose.
Manufacturer : HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
Mfr's. Report Date : FEB 26, 2008
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 08V091000 N/A
NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 273000
Summary:
HONDA IS RECALLING 273,000 MY 2004-2008 ACURA TL VEHICLES. PROLONGED HIGH UNDER-HOOD TEMPERATURES MAY CAUSE THE POWER STEERING HOSE TO DETERIORATE PREMATURELY CAUSING THE HOSE TO CRACK AND LEAK POWER STEERING FLUID.
Consequence:
POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING ONTO A HOT CATALYTIC CONVERTER WILL GENERATE SMOKE AND POSSIBLY LEAD TO AN UNDER-HOOD FIRE.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW HEAT RESISTANT POWER STEERING HOSE FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS MAY CONTACT ACURA AT 800-382-2238. THIS IS AN EXPANSION OF A PREVIOUS RECALL (PLEASE SEE 07V551).

Update - Customer service gave me a call and said they are looking into my issue. Also that my VIN should of been part of the recall but wasn't.

The recall was due to the routing of the hose so if certain models were deemed to already have the newer design that caused the hose to fail then they weren't included. At least that is what the service adviser told me about the hose, not people being left out.
Where is it leaking?
Wasn't there also a newer O-ring installed with the recall? I can see the lawyers saying that an O-ring will only cause smoke but a burnt through hose will cause a fire, so just do the VIN's with the old style hose. Let the owner pay for the O-ring replacement.

P/S High Pressure hose located at the back left of the engine bay. This went bad and started leaking onto the cat. convr.
This caused smoke and as well as the cabin would smell P/S fluid. I guess because the vents are near where it is burning. Living in Arizona, and if it was 100 plus degrees, i think my car would of been a goner.
Had the dealer replace it, looks more durable since it is layered by aluminum i believe. Working with Acura Care, should of been covered by the recall.

Update: Client services was able to find my car in the recall list and was able to reimburse me for the fix.
Setup an appoitment to have the job redone since they replaced the High Pressure hose with a different part number rather than the new part number per the recall.
Finally was able to get support from client services with my TL Type S. For being a loyal Honda/Acura, owning the 1992 GSR, 2000 GSR, 2004 TSX. The only time I've had problems was with the 2004 TSX with the clutch master cylinder. Replaced that part twice and still creaked. Then finally a service advisor told me it was normal. So why did they recommend to have it replaced.

Guessing you are in Canada? I want to say yes but then again Canada does things differently than the US. Just call your local dealer and ask the same question you just posted.

Recall links
Thanks for the links posted and glad to know that it worked out. I am a noob but have some automotive exp.. 2nd week with my 05 TL and i am loving this car. On another note, i have heard some car companies do recalls on the ps high psi hoses do to wearing from many heat cycles which in turn causes them to become hard and brittle in spots. obviously they leak and them the problems start. so they replace them with a higher temp hose that can handle the heat and stress more.. just my

My 2005 TL navi AT was part of the recall and it was replaced in 2009 however it's leaking again. So much for a "recall." They want 300 bucks to replace it and is claiming that the pump is the culprit.
#19
kpc2593 Any update on that? I was doing my t-belt the other day and noticed some leaking fluid near the pump. Should've known as my steering was making noises and I'd needed to add fluid a few weeks back.
