PLEASE Help I JUST BOUGHT A 2005 ACURA TL 67,000 MILES A MONTH AGO THE CAR RUNS PERFECT FULL POWER AND NOW THE CHECK ENGINE IS ON SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND AFTER HE SCANNED THE CODE P0420 SHOWED UP AND HE SAID IT COULD BE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WICH HE CAN FIX IT FOR $1000, PLEASE I WANT TO KNOW IF THIS ISSUE IN UNDER WARRANTY BY ACURA OR NOT? OR IS IT REALLY THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUE SINCE THE CAR RUNS FINE?

Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) is what the error code is. It could be caused by a bad O2 sensor which is nowhere near 1000 dollars to fix. OR it could be a bad catalyst, you can buy a High Flow one from here for around 200-300 buck and get them replaced or you can buy an OEM one for a little more and have that put on as well. In any case it shouldn't be 1000 dollars.
Also please do us a favor and turn the caps lock off, it seems like you are yelling at us!

Pretty sure that the 3rd cat will never throw a code because there are no sensors on it.

Thank you all for your answers, today a friend of mine will work on my car he said he will take the cat and clean it with a deg raiser liquid and leave it overnight hopefully that will work.

cats should be covered as an emission component. O2 sensor not so sure about. look in your owners manual or warranty handbook
