Paint Chipped Help * Pics

I parked at my school's parking lot and when I went back to my car, I discovered someone backed into my front bumper
The painted was chipped but no dent was made. I've decided to cover it up with some of the touch up paint but it is still bugging me. I dont want to replace the entire bumper because of that scratch. If I bring my car to a body shop or like a Maacco, would they be able to fix the paint chip? A friend suggest that I just cover it up with a sticker

Bumpers tend to be hard to fix. I took it to the detailer before to try to get it buffed out but because bumpers are made of plastic, you can only heat it up so much before you damage it. This makes it difficult to cover up completely without repainting it.

Really bro why would you go to Maaco?

I've gotten bumpers painted for 150 bucks by looking in the phone book. Just call places and make sure they're using good paint. It's not hard to repaint it. Maaco will just rip you off.

And you won't have to replace the bumper. It's not dented to hell or even bent.

You gotta get it repainted. There's no other way. I just paid $300 to get mine done.

repaint....otherwise, i would say its just going to happen again, this is what happens when you have a large mass of "children" driving and parking in close quarters, and then you have a few who somehow manage to drive cars that they cant actually afford, mix all that up with some drugs, cell phones texters and chicks putting on make up all while being late for "school" and you now have your bangged up bumper....

Uh oh - He said Maaco!

There's no dent because the bumper flexed on impact and flexed back after the hit. Unfortunately, paint is not that flexible. That's why the paint chipped.

Please don't put a sticker to cover up the chip. That's just cheap. You can go the touch up route but make sure you clear it, sand it and buff it after you touch up the paint. There's no way a buffer will generate enough heat to melt the Urethane bumper.

Go to a bodyshop, and no not macco. It should be around 200 to properly fix it. I suggest that you look around the school parking lot for a car with damage in and area that could have hit your car.

let's start a thread about what to do next..

1. Call police & insurance - say you saw the offender drive off..

2. well.. be creative

well.. sorry to hear about it.. happens to the best of us.. but you're a student so you have time and the offender typically returns to the scene of the crime.. you know the day and time.. if they didn't care to backup up carefully they probably won't care about the damage to their car (unless they don't want you catching them)..

my advice.. park as far as you can in the most isolated space you can find.. it's those who park as close as they can who usually want to leave as fast as they can as well.. also get on that 7yr plan.. working sucks right now..
