No-Start Issue
Hi, posting here for a friend of mine. He has a 2006 TL auto. I was working on his car last weekend, mainly swapping some body panels, and changing the radiator.
Before I started working on the car he had a misfire and a flashing CEL; so I figured it was an ignition related issue. I narrowed it down the a bad coil in the middle cylinder up front. So I finished the body work, installed new radiator(new thermostat a few weeks back) swapped out the bad coil with a new one and it still had a slight misfire. Now the rear middle coil was not working, even though I had checked before.
So later that night when I was dropping his car off home, the misfire from the bad coil went away, and after filling gas and driving half a mile the misfire returned. Then I shut off his car, came back 5 minutes later and his car would not start.
I checked a couple of things today; the camgears and belt are turning visible through the peephole on the timing cover. I am pretty sure its getting fuel because when we keep cranking it, we get a fuel smell and some smoke from the upper radiator hose. And I removed a coil and tried to get spark by using a screw driver(I know not the best method but all I had atm).
So long story short, 2006 TL, cranks but does not start. Appears to be getting fuel. Two coils went bad, both are new, both in the middle(front+rear). Any suggestions? I measured the voltage at the coil wires and they were around 6.35 V all across if that helps.
