New 3G TL owner looking for some quick answer please
I bought my 2004 acura tl (automatic) 3 months ago and since then I had nothing but problems with the transmission.
The dealer replace the transmission a week after I have bought it from them and it's been running good until I decided to take up a Canyon and started to spill most if not all of the transmission fluid.
I Towed it back home started to look into it to figure out where it's leaking from, first off I notice the dealer did a sloppy job and noticed that they broke 1 out of the bolts on the transmission mount and as was looking around I came across 2 houses I need help identifying. Hopefully u guys can help out.
The first picture is a hose right next to the mount itself and the second hose sits further back kinda by the firewall.
FYI - the black mount plate on the top transmission mount is backwards, shouldn't cause those type issues though. The other are just vacuum hoses, not going to cause leaks either, pretty sure they just link the front and rear engine mounts, they're just routed around the transmission.
Pics of leak?

I second MonkeyTrucker. Hose is for the Mount's vacuum. supposedly the TL has Vacuum assisted mounts. When you're on the gas, the mounts get stiffer. or so the engineers say.

2nd hose is the one that connects to the mount

either way, it wouldnt cause the transmission leak.

I followed both hoses and they both lead to the mounts, so that makes sense and as per the leak on the transmission there was oil all over the transmission and compartments around the transmission, still haven't been able to find the leak. I notice those two hoses and I was thinking that could b part of my problem.
I will make sure to flip that mount around, thanks for the info guys.
what type of warranty did the dealership give you and what symptoms are you experiencing?
Also, check inbetween where the trans mounts to the bell housing and see if its leaking from there. For some reason when those two are separated leaks develop from the main seal.
They gave me 6 Month warranty so I'm going to the it back to them, I was hoping it was something simple I could fix myself.
I was up a steep Canyon on 3rd-4th gear. the car was doing great and out of nowhere the transmission gave out and the engine would only Rev, engine fluid levels were on the spot(according to the dash) , no check engine lights, no warning lights what so ever. The car started to slowed down and I moved to the side shoulder, thats when I notice I was leaving a trail of oil and a small cloud of smoke came from underneath.
Parked the car went to check what sort of oil it had dropped and it was Transmission fluid, it leaked a good quart r so. Left the car overnight and Towed it back home the next day, turned the engine on, put it in drive and got the car on the Dolly with no hesitation. Got home and pull the car out of the Dolly and again it didn't hesitate at all.
Could of been that they use cheap oil? Could the dips tick came loose with high pressure and spilled oil from there? I will check the bell housing for any leaks tomorro, I will also connect the vacuum ports, filled the transmission with ATF oil and keep an eye for any leaks.
Update :
Found no leak, I'm guessing that when they installed the newer transmission they over filled it causing it to pressurized after a while of driving and the fluid escaping from the breather hose.
So far I've done the 3x3 fluid change with the Honda /acura ATF fluid, replaced the transmission filter and also replaced a kink metal hose that connects to the transmission filter cover.
The question I got is why does my ATF fluid come out smelling like it's burn, like if there was a restriction somewhere causing it to overheat and burn up? Will adding transmission cooler help with this problem. Thanks for the help guys and sorry for the long post
Damn. Not good. Burn smell means internal temp too high. Don't mess with trannys, i would say take control of the situation now and back yourself up. Document everything, leaks, smell, vacuum hose left to dry out, then send the dealer a formal notice of legal action. Give them 2 weeks to fix all problems. If not, sue them for the negligence, damages for the new transmission that has been compromised, and add anything you can, time off work, towing costs, moral fear for driving a car that can give up any day, plus compensation and force them to cover all related repair costs within 12 months at another dealer. I am in a similar situation and I'm suing for 3000$ more than what i paid for rebuild...but in my case it was not the dealership that rebuilt.
