Need help, rear wheel bearing stuck on spindle?

Hey guys,

I've been having whining sounds coming from the rear of the car so I picked up a new hub/bearing today. I took the spindle nut off and the stock hub/bearing wasn't coming off so I just grabbed it and pulled and quickly noticed I was able to see all the ball bearings inside, so it appears part of the original assembly is stuck on the spindle shaft? I'm still trying to get this off but any idea's? I don't want to damage the spindle. Pics below.

what I've done on my s4 in the past with this similar issue is to heat up the ring with a torch, then use a dremel to grind a slot into it. Then use a chizel and start hammering away in the slot you dremeled. Should break open and you'll be able to slide it out without effort.

Well since I didn't have a torch readily available I went straight to the dremel and made a slit in the metal and took a chisel and "broke it free". It still refuses to slip off the damn spindle shaft.. Is it possible my spindle shaft has bent and maybe that was my problem all along?

Edit: I got it off after playing with it for a bit. I just grabbed it with a towel and yanked really hard and it popped loose. I'm not sure if I just expected it to slip on/off real easy or if something is bent.. Should they slide on off real easy?

no they will not slide off that easily. They are put on using a press.

The torch method will expand the bearing a bit. Even then it still requires a bit of a tug to slide it off.
Glad you got it off.

You can always dremel a slot on the inner race and use a chisel to break it apart. Or you can a posi-lock puller to take the inner race off the shaft.

I was totally envisioning a tool that looks just like that in my head which would make it easy to take off I got the new one in place. It wouldn't slip right on so I just placed a small block of wood on the center hub ring and gently tapped it in place.. Thanks!

How many miles on your TL? Age?

Is that an OEM replacement wheel bearing/hub assembly?

Just under 130k miles. No it's a Duralast from Autozone.. I needed to get this done today/tomorrow and my local Acura dealer wanted $200 for a new hub/bearing assembly which is ridiculous when you can order the exact same part online for around $133 or something. I paid $69.99 for that one, or they can order Timken for $99.99. I figure I can replace it twice for the price of one OEM online and almost three times for the price of one at my local dealer.

Rock Auto has the Timken version for $69.XX. I have a rear wheel bearing that could stand to be replaced, I think that is what I will go with.
