Nav Won't Boot!

Unhappy Nav Won't Boot!

Ack! Hi All,

It comes up with the legal screen but never the OK button... Brought it to the dealer and they said the controller is broken and needs replacing... For a mere $3000!!!! (it would be free if it were only in warranty....).

Anybody know the full name (or part number) of this controller? And where could I get one... cheaper maybe...?

Take out the DVD and start up the car, it will display no navi disk inserted. Turn off the car, then turn back on and insert the disk back into the drive (its in the right hand corner of the trunk) That will make it reload the entire system and then it should work. If it doesn't work, contact ALPINE and you can send them the drive and about 180 dollars and they will fix it. The navi drive is very expensive, about 2.7K.

I'll give that a try, but the dealer said it wasn't the trunk unit but a controller card ("The Brains"). I think they said that's in front. Did I hear wrong?

every electrical malfunction is due to a bad controller (brains) when you have no idea what the problem is.

Back in the day when I used to do alignments for NTW, if a customer came back after getting an alignment complaining of a pull, I'd tell them that they have to give the car a chance to "track"

Well, the trick above didn't work...

The unit I was told needed replacing is:
39540-SEP-406

Which we can see here is $2414.... ugh:

My question: Is this the unit in the trunk or up front? The dealer said it's up front. But, where is that? How would I get to it?

Will Alpine really fix this??

At the legal warning, can you hold GUIDE, MENU, and CANCEL to go to diagnostic screen?

Yes and I've run most of the diags. The GPS diag is fine, but running the Navi diag (I think that was the name. It shows a whole bunch of green boxes on the screen - the different electronic components) is forever "Checking...".

that is the unit in the trunk, its called the DVD Unit, thats where you took the disk out of. Like I said, if you are out of warranty, call up alpine and send them your drive, they can fix it for you.

Just want to make sure you tried this, have you try booting up a friend's Navi DVD or borrow a different Navi DVD and see if that works? A scratched or bad disc could prevent the navigation to boot up also. That is the cheapest way I can think of troubleshoot it before getting your dvd unit or navi unit replaced.

Your other option is to keep checking ebay for a used unit. They show up there all of the time.

If Alpine will do it for $180.00, you really can't beat that.

It's worth a try, but if diags is hanging, it's likely not the disk.

Thanks everyone!

My first course will be to try and borrow a disk to give that a shot. It's certainly worth trying. If that doesn't work then I'll contact Alpine to see if they'll repair it cheap. Barring that I'll search eBay looking for a replacement unit.

I'll let you all know how it goes.
