Motor running HOT but not overheating

so I’m new to the TL type s and just wanted to know if the motors run hot. The car doesn’t overheat but it definitely holds some heat in it. From a cold start the motor will be up to temp in about 6-8 minutes. And after I shut it down from a 30 min ride it will stay warm for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Is this normal?

you do know that there are explosions happening inside an Internal Combustion Engine, right?
air. fuel. and Spark create mini
which creates heat.

Yeah I get that... you can feel the heat coming off this thing while sitting in the car. Just makes me feel like it may be running lean.

Mine is hot....but so is every car I have ever driven. In the summer, our garage is unbearable from roughly 5-8PM since it ends up with two cars sitting in there radiating heat. As stated already...internal combustion engines are extremely inefficient and generate lots of waste heat. You will not be able to tell if your car is running lean, rich, or just right based on the feel of the engine heat radiation. In "theory" if it were running lean, you would have codes to back that up.

if you feel like something is not normal, open her up and see what you can find!
as your description sounds pretty damn normal for an internal combustion engine...

there was one thread; where a user dismantled the cup holder area and found a hose disconnected, leading to extra engine heat inside cabin.
Open her up and see what you find

So I have codes for the cat in bank one so firewall side. But I don’t think it’s clogged cause it runs through the rpms fine. When I get into high rpms it smells horrible. Most likely a small exhaust leak.

clogged cat will induce more heat.
if it smells like sulpher, cat is bad.

Main reason I’m worried about all of this is the kid I bought it off of didn’t take care of the car at all. Ran lowest grade gas through it. And when I got it the spark plug was stripped out and he was driving with a misfire for like 6 months. So I had t helicoil it (cause it’s easier than replacing the head and I’m lazy). Just trying to get this car back to being a great car instead of the bucket I bought.

why DIDNT you start off the thread with your problems, instead of "normal" engine heat??
jeez, i'm over here thinking you're like 12 years old who never encountered a running engine before.

you should always start off with your problems.
replace all bad parts with good parts.
replace cats because they are bad because had been ran with lowest grade fuel.
replace 02 sensors.

so its only saying firewall side so im gonna go cheap and just buy that one right now. But when i bought this car i had to a lower control arm, ball joint and the upper transmission mount was destroyed. I couldnt believe the kid drove around like that the whole time.

Also the more i dug around on here i seen that the MOOG ball joints were horrible and the bolt would let loose. of course i put that ball joint in so i guess im gonna have to do another ball joint. which sucked.

So my car is throwing a code for the converter in bank 1. Would it also throw O2 senors if those were bad to or can i reuse my o2 sensors and save my self some money? And does any one have any tips or tricks to wedging your hands between the firewall and cat. im gonna dig into this car saturday and really want it to go smooth so i can get done and watch some penn state football haha.

I've merged your thread from the previous one where you first identified the problem.

What is the code specifically? The O2 sensors are the only ones that could really sense a cat problem so I'm guessing you have an O2 code. If it's the upstream, then something is up with the fuel/air mixture. If it's downstream, then yes, it's probably a cat.

This is exactly why I merged the thread. Keep all your troubleshooting in one place so people can give more accurate tips.

Motor 'running hot' sounds like clogged cat. It's likely his cat

Well I finally did the converter today. 6 and a half hours later it’s done (every bolt was stuck from rust). One thing I didn’t Check is the o2 senor from the bottom where the wire ran to the harness. Does the tail have enough room to make it around that rear motor mount so it’s not close to the cat? I don’t want it to melt the wires.
