Exclamation Loud rattle on cold start, goes away when hot.

Alright boys, I have searched all threads and no definite answer so don't give me shit for it. Just give me help!

I have a loud rattling coming from I under the hood on a cold start. it goes away after about 10 minutes of driving. Hopefully the videos (sound really) below help. The first is on cold start and the second is when I arrived to work. Sorry for the darkness, I go in to work at 630am so there was no light. Audio should be good though.

On a side note, I did take it to a shop and they were saying i need new motor. Lol (hopefully). Check engine light has not come in once either.... Let me know what you guys think (know)

When was your last oil change and what kind do you use? How's your oil level? How many miles do you have . Sounds like valve chatter.

My google abilities are legendary and I think I may have found your issue but it depends on if they changed your TB tensioner or not and if they used decent parts. Even if they did change it it still sounds like it too me.

Go in about half way into this video. Sounds like your car. The first comment is from the guy you posted the video saying "Solved the problem. It's the auto tensioner for the timing belt. It's a common problem and makes the rattling noise when it's leaked oil. I did my timing belt service and saw the leaking fluid. Sound is gone now. "

OP from listening to your video, I am 100% sure its your TB tensioner. I know this because it happened on my TL and let me tell the symptom, the noise only pop up when engine is cold, the noise got louder when air temperature drop to cold the ideal temp is anything below 50 degrees that when the noise become obvious. Now about the TB job, did you do the job yourself? if not its possible they only replace the TB and may be WP, most of these dealer throw out offer like $500 for TB service and they normally goes for $1200. Well we all know why its so cheap. This is why I replace everything I could during the TB/WP service like cam seals, all the tensioner etc... so I don't have to pay for another belt job labor cost.

Buddy of mine did it a while back, he obviously did not know what he was doing but talking to my friend last night who is a honda tech said the same thing! you guys are great!

Also, would this cause a leak of some kind? I've been noticing the past couple days a little puddle accumilating but dont know where its from. (not a/c).
About my noise, Should I replace the belt, pump and tensioner, or is there more I should replace? Thanks again to everyone who has helped!

What color is the puddle? Blue-ish? That would be coolant.

About the pump, it should have been changed when the TB service was done. If it wasn't it should be now. If it was then IMO if it wasn't OE then do it again with OE. If you can't tell I'm a big proponent of OE parts when it comes to Honda/Acura stuff. I'm not saying you have to get it at the dealer (but many offer very good prices on line) but just that they are actually OE. Obviously little things that are easily replaced can be non OE other but for stuff that's a larger effort to get to (like tensioners and water pumps) I stick to OE.

Leak tensioner should not leave any puddle on the ground, previously did you replace the belt with oem or oem supplier part? If yes then replace just the tensioner and if not then i would go ahead replace everything.

Thanks to EVERYONE here! I replaced the tensioners. they were reused. Also replaced the shitty no name brand belt and no name brand pump. No more noise on a cold start. Thank god, especially with winter coming. The colder it was, the louder the noise was. I went ahead and did a valve adjustment seeing how its never had one before. Thanks again to everyone in this thread!! you guys are the tits!!

Glad it work out for you, again this prove theory "if it ain't broke don't replace" is sh*t. My theory is if you have easy access to it replace it...
