Intermittent noise from starter

Every few starts, My starter, or at least I am fairly sure thats what it is, makes an aweful squeeling noise and will stay that way until the car is restarted.

I have recently found out that if I turn the key all the way forward to start while the car is still running, the noise wil stop.

A more mechanically inclined person told me earlier thatche thinks that the starter is staying engaged. He said it could either be the starter itself, or the ignition switch that is the problem.

Should I be trying to replace the starter, or would this problem maybe lie in the ignition switch, or. Maybe somewhere else?

Thanks all!

Yes sounds like that starter pinion gear is sticking . Replace it with an Denso one. (OEM manufacturer )

If Denso is OEM for the starter, that's news to me. Denso makes the OEM compressor, but not the starter AFAIK. I believe the OEM starter is made by Mitsubishi....

Go to RockAuto and order the Mitsubishi made aftermarket starter for only ~$120.
