How to Reset SRS/Airbag System After Accident???

Hey Guys,
I recently got into a minor front end collision which was just hard enough to set off the seat belt pre-tensioner in my 2005 Acura TL 6 speed. Along with the pre-tensioner issue, the airbag light on the dash is on and the passenger airbag warning light is also blinking "OFF". I just replaced the seat belt unit with the hope that the system would just "reset" itself, but no luck. At this point do I have to buy the whole SRS Module as well as the two sensors which are up front behind the bumper? Also, does the system have to be re programmed with Acura software after the module is replaced? Any help on the process of getting the Airbag system back to normal would be greatly appreciated!!

The replacement of parts is only one of the steps. You should have the system scanned to determine exact issue before throwing parts at it, once issue is defined there will be a reset required with a specific tool/scanner for SRS. I assume Indys as well as dealers have these but function not available in the standard code readers a DIYer can buy at big box store.

Like 08KBP_VA wrote, you need big boy scanner to figure out what is wrong with the system, and it might been enough of the accident for the airbag computer to write permanent fault.
There are shops that offer resetting it, or sometimes you can ship the computer to them. From what I know it costs $50-100.

But again, it would be nice to read codes first, as it might be something as simple as bad/used up sensor.

Replace the sensors, and replace the SRS module. No way around it.

Thanks for the help. Do all of the sensors need to be replaced, or just the 2 up front? They were not damaged in the accident.

Just the front ones where the hit was.

No problem. I meant to tell you, after you replace those items if the light is still on, take it to a body shop. You will more than likely need to initialize the OPDS with has to be done with an OE level scan tool. (i.e. snap on, autel, etc..). At most they should only charge 1 hour of labor.

Gotcha. I will look into that. Any good websites to purchase the new sensors that you know of?

Unfortunately I don't. We order all Honda/Acura parts OEM from the local dealership where I work, which would be Pohanka Honda / Karen Radley Acura (if you're curious). I believe in the vendor section though there are a few dealerships that sell online here.
