How long can the TL last?
I have a 2006 TL AT Nav. It now has 162,000 miles on it. It has only had the power steering pump and starter replaced. No other major repairs. I treat the car like a queen. I was just wondering how far in miles it can really go. Can the engine and trans really last to 300K miles? I live in NJ ( BANG BANG) so I know that is a factor. I love the car and don't want a car payment. Do you think it is at midlife? thanks

It'll go until you decide not to put any more money into it.
But as long as you do your maintenance on time, you have many, many more miles left.

A fairly well designed, well maintained engine should be perfectly happy running 300K at least. 500K or more depending on typical use. Typically, a well maintained engine is one of the last things to fail. Under ideal use, most any modern engine will last 1,000,000 miles. Good luck finding ANY transmission to last that long.
The auto transmission is quite unlikely to make it that long. It depends wildly on how the car is used, but it's uncommon for any car to last beyond 300K. A lot of that is simply due to the car being totaled, or the owner giving up on it when something goes wrong.

I have a similar story as for repairs. I've got over 223,000 miles now on my '04 TL AT. The only issues I've had are new starter, power steering pump rebuild and one of the window motors. My seat has recently worn through but everything else has been fantastic. Best car I've ever owned BY FAR!

Growler, you pretty much hit it on the head. Every 100,000ish miles you have to decide whether to spring for another 105k maintenance bill. Of course other things can pop up, but there are indeed people on here with 300,000 miles on their 3G TLs. Just go through some of lengthy posts on the subject. Very reassuring reading to the rest of us "sub-200k" folks.

Thanks for clearing up that you weren't referring to someone shooting your car. I hoped things weren't that bad out there (though I do remember somebody shooting a car on the Schuykill Expressway in Philly)!

My TL has 261k on it... I just bought it (Lied to about the mileage) and it seems to run great! Dealer maintained and timing belt only done at 156k. I need to get that replaced stat!

That's pretty impressive, especially since you are supercharged! Wow, and I thought 136k on my 2007 was a lot.

They switched out the gauge cluster... Everyone thinks the mileage is stored in the computer but its really stored in the cluster. Asshole changed the cluster and listed it at 61k miles...
And this TL is not supercharged, my old 2006 TL was supercharged. I bought this one with plans to do the same thing as a daily driver, wont be putting a S/C on this one thats for sure!!!

Is yours a manual or automatic ? It must be a manual because I can't believe a automatic could last that long. I live in the northeast so my car is subjected to bad roads and weather conditions. Sorry, but you don't run ANY car to 400K miles without doing more work that you stated.

Im in Iowa, it’s a automatic and I swear that’s the only work other then regular maintenance.

Ok. I have almost 300k on my TL, msintained it like a princess, and still had to replace items. Maybe it's the climate and conditions where I live. Bad roads, stop and go, and severe weather could have alot to do with it.

I hear ya about the bad roads and crazy weather. Our coldest temp was like -55 degrees with windshield this year. I think actual temp was -33 degrees

Probably climate and conditions. I live in the SF Bay Area, and my dad was able to run his Auto '05 V6 Accord up to 240k in 9 years before the auto transmission gave out. He only did the timing belt job once, and then maybe replaced the PS pump once only cuz it started to leak and cause a small flame (but put out before it caused damage). I don't think he could have hit 240k if it wasn't for his 45-mile one way commute to work everyday though.
