how to get rid of brakes squeaking?
Went to Les Schwab last Friday and said that the pads and rotors look fine, but my brakes still squeak. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it? Do I need to put some grease on the pads?
take them apart- clean the sliders and relube with synthetic caliper grease
lube the back of the pads where the contact marks from the pistons hit
lube anywhere that has to move against each other
any ridge on the rotors?
drive it slow a lot and drag the brakes to stop?
ever use the brakes in a more aggressive manner- they like that!
Brembo fronts?

I did a brake job on my Pilot and it's got the squeal's too. It is getting better but I am going to do as 01tl4tl says and also get the stuff Turbonut mentions. It is embarrassing for sure.
Most brake noise under light braking is that the pads actually move slightly inside the caliper and this movement creates a squealing noise, metal to metal as the pads or shims move against the piston(s). Under hard braking no noise as the piston pressure keeps the pads steady inside the caliper.
When I first had my TL I could have gotten it lemoned for this same brake squeling issue. Since I liked the car so much I just kept taking a drive with my gf to the dealers since I liked driving around different loaners while they work on my car. Plus I love their reactions on their faces when my girl steps out of my car hahahha. I tell her to dress sexier than normal and I get top notch service. hahahah. But yes it's the break pads. This is a known issue with TL's. Took me 4 or 5 trips for them to finaly get it worked up. Took that many because they thought they could just lube it but won't work for long. Besides lubing breaks? Common sense tells me not to why lube something that was engineered to grip? Finaly since it was such a big issue with TL's they have created a new brake pad that would eliminate the squaling once and for all. Too bad I had to keep returning for the same issue over and over cause they thought if I drove it enough it will go away. Wrong! New brake pads from the dealer got it solved. Just took them long enough to manufacture a new type for our ride.

Yup, have seen it done before. Some first timers just think as the brakes are making a noise, lube the pads and it will be good. They just aren't knowledgeable, but learn quickly.
Side bar-Many years ago there was a fellow in his 20’s in the Saint Barnabas burn center as he decided to start a fire in his fireplace by dousing the wood with gasoline first, then leaving the open container next to the fire box. He said he had no idea that an explosion could happen.
Common sense for some, but others just don't know.

I have brake squeal under light/medium braking. It goes away when braking harder. I have been to the brake shop numerous times and they say there's nothing wrong and that it is a "normal" noise. They put anti-squeal lube and it went away for a couple weeks, but then the noise returned. A good majority of my driving is highway and I don't brake hard very often.
I wonder if this is what is going on in my case. How would I know? Wouldn't the brake shop know to check this out?
What are these "new" pads that PowerCommander is talking about? Perhaps this will solve my noise issues?

Normally, pads do make noise over time. Rotors rust blistering will cause pads to make noise. If these are aftermarket pads it's usually due to the compound material used to make the pad. For OEM pads making noise again the above statement still stands or a pad that has becomed chattered due to warped or blisted rotors. Usually changing the pads does the trick, depending on your mileage they may cut the rotors as part of doing the pads.
The noise seems too loud to me to be normal. I went 120,000 miles without brake noise (or at least it wasn't loud enough for me to be constantly noticing), and the noise has only been there for the past 10,000 miles since I got new aftermarket pads and rotors one of those big chain brake shop places. Maybe that was a mistake.
My pads have been squeaking loud at soft/medium braking also. Went to my buddies shop today to look at it and he thinks the reason its squeaking is because the pad is sitting higher then the rotor so the rotor is almost like slicing into the pad. Have any of you guys looked at that, and is that maybe something happening? I have a type-s and are these problems common for base or type-s or both? Well we just put it back together and he said to check with Acura if its a common problem. I haven't made it there yet but came across this thread and had 2 questions,
Did any of those suggestions stop the squeaking for you guys?
Those new brake pads, did they work?
