Just got a hold of my mechanic, best he can explain it to me is that it was a piece of the heat shield for the catalytic converter that attaches it to the pipe.

Wow, was that missing weld so sensitive that as soon you even lightly pressed the accelerator, you would hear the whine immediately?

Just bought an acura tl, 2006, and mine does the same thing, it sounds supercharged lol, mine has 110k, tranny seems to shift good for a car with that many miles, I have a little shake between 1st and 2nd, the shake only happens when im not acceling hard, if I punch it its smoother, any suggestions??

Not to bring up an old thread, but I am also getting a weird noise when accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear on my 2004 6MT. Hard or normal acceleration it still makes the noise. My best description of it would be baseball cards in a bicycle wheel. I had an axle clunk on the driver side and a new axle took care of that. The noise is definitely still on the drivers side, but I just can't tell what it is. I did notice the brake dust shield is rusted out near where it bolts up to the spindle, but it is not contacting anything. Just wondering if anybody has made any discoveries.

Well I did some research and while this isn't an Acura it does involve a Torsen type differential that is making the exact same noise as my car is making (baseball cards in a bicycle wheel). That guy even took his trans apart and found nothing wrong with the differential. Could it just be the nature of the beast? I haven't put my car in the air yet, but that is the next step to investigate the issue. I would like to know if anybody else with a 6MT is getting the same noise or if it is a problem.

My 05 tl does the save thing auto. Not sure if anyone else has tried to replicate the issue in park or neutral but mine will make the noise if in park also. I just have to rev the engine up to around 3000 and you can easily hear it...

Hey, anyone else figure this out? I can only hear the whistle when I put my foot on the gas. Even a slight touch, I could hear it. When I'm on park or neutral and rev the engine, I don't hear anything, so I would think it can't be the belt tensioner.

I heard some many things that it could be the power steering pump

2007 TL, over 120K and this whistling noise under light acceleration has shown up. After reading this thread, I'm going to investigate the heat shield ideer. I like doing the cheap stuff first.

Mine does the same whining supercharger noise too.. I always thought it would either be the idler pulley or possibly alternator+belt? had all my other belts changed and that didnt solve the issue. I really hope its not transmission related (did the sensor swaps).

Also have that same CC heatshield issue but its not bugging me too much at the moment.

Some guys mentioned idler pulley, you mean the one for the drive belt or the timing belt?

not sure but i had already changed the timing belt, tensioners, and water pump like 3 months ago. So now they replaced my alternator and the noise is gone
