Help Needed... "chirping" or "whirring" sound from front
Hi Everyone,
Been a while since I have posted, and I apologize for that... been enjoying my TL and hard at work in downtown DC now.
At any rate, I have noticed that after I drive the car for a time, when parked I can hear (if I stand outside the car) this constant, regular chirp or whirring sound from the front passenger hood area... It's a steady rhythm like chirp... chirp.... chirp...
What can this be? I hate to go to the dealer as they always turn the car on for 2 minutes, hear nothing and claim there isn't a problem. This is worst when the car has been running a good while.

It is possible it could be the problem listed above. However, more than likely it is just the sound of the heat sheilds and or cats cooling down kinda making a pinging noise. Just something metal does when it gets really hot out and it starts to cool down. This is probably more noticeable as of late because of the unreasonably cool temps we have had and the added effect that the garage magnifies the sound.

i had this problem with a rental car and from what if figured out, the bearing on the heater was bad and was causing a whirring/chirping noise as you state. Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies.
If it's the heat shield, shouldn't I hear something when I accelerate? Come to think of it, I did hear something a few times. I will ask acura to look at it.
JDM, good point, but this is very regular and just goes on and on as long as the car is running. When the car is off, the sound stops. I have heard the sound you are talking about and this is not like that sound.
A bearing in the heater? That one I haven't heard of. Something to think about.

Wait so you hear this noise while the car is running. I thought you were talking about when the car was parked and off. I guess I just read it incorrectly. This could be 1 of 2 things. It is quite possible it is the a/c you hear or it is a tensioner that is going bad. I'd get it checked out soon. If it's the a/c no problem there like the one person said it could be the bearing you are hearing or it could be the actual compressor. However, if it is the tensioner then that could be a bad thing if it fails. So take it in soon to get it diagnosed by the dealer and repaired as soon as possible if it's the tensioner.
