Help my mpg is terrible

So I own a 2006 acura tl with 92,300 miles on it. Every time I fill my tank up with premium I don't get the mpg that I'm supposed to its horrible like around 186 miles!! so I experiment one day in pumping regular 87 and my mpg was way better! I live in nyc that can decrease the mpg with this stop n go traffic bs here but I don't understand why I'm getting better mpg with regular gasoline! In the winter while pumping premium I've even gotten the p0171 p174 code. Ive used techron and it isn't effective! Could it that I have to change my spark plugs? Please help thanks in advance

Yeah!!! Another MPG thread!!!

There are many many many threads that cover the basics that you should read up on.

#1 - You didn't provide us your actual MPG, you provided how many miles you drive which is pointless without knowing other details.
#2 - How many gallons of fuel did you use in those 186 miles?
#3 - What was your AVG speed during those 186 miles?
#4 - One tank of testing 87 octane is not a true test, you will need to do multiple tanks over similar driving paths/styles to get a good baseline.
#5 - There are lots and lots of other random things that impact your MPG like driving style, traffic, temps, plugs, tires, air pressure, dragging brake calipers, wind, phase of the moon, color of eyes, etc

#2 - How many gallons of fuel did you use in those 186 miles? Full tank of 93 octane
#3 - What was your AVG speed during those 186 miles? Trip computer said 12
#4 - One tank of testing 87 octane is not a true test, you will need to do multiple tanks over similar driving paths/styles to get a good baseline. I did. I pumped with regular 5x and on a full tank I get around 245-260 miles. 18 mpg.
#5 - There are lots and lots of other random things that impact your MPG like driving style, traffic, temps, plugs, tires, air pressure, dragging brake calipers, wind, phase of the moon, color of eyes, etc I drive normal not aggressive but there are times on empty rpad I hit pedal to the medal. I have near new tires that I bought around September.

some tires reduce MPG as they are heavier or don't stick as well. Also when is the last time you changed the engine air filter? Spark Plugs? Ever use a fuel cleaner? What gas station are you getting gas from? 12 MPH is very low and means you spend a bit of time idling!

I have michelin pilots all season tires
Yes I changed the intake filter but the spark plugs I'll be changing it soon. Nyc is full of cars and signal lights. I've used the techron fuel injector cleaner I should try the fuel system cleaner hopefully it'll make a difference. Imma reset the ecu too. I use either bp or shell.

Lived in Queens for a bit and you forgot about the asshat pedestrians too! The only way to get better MPG is to not accelerate and brake as much. Traffic kills MPG but that's part of life. I would get 4-5MPG in the 760 in the city!

Still not a useful answer. How many gallons was the question. Is a full tank to you 10.5, 12.8, 13.2, 14, 15.1 gallons? Trying to understand your actual MPG here, not just your perception of how many miles you can get per tank. If to you a full tank were 11 gallons, that is just at 17MPG which is pretty darn good for the speeds you are driving. Even if it was 15.1 gallons, that is still around 12MPG which isn't crazy considering the speeds you are driving.

I fill up until it can't no more around the 13.2-13.5but you are right it's the driving conditions because whenever I fill in a gas station near the highway I'll reset the trip computer and after around 10 to 15 miles of driving my mpg is 27 mph 56

OEM factory iridium plugs will last 120K miles with no sacrifice in fuel mileage, but that's me driving mostly HWY.
If your plugs made the difference you sought, that tells me you're plugs are fouling out early. More than likely due to your heavy CITY driving and wondering how healthy your engine was running at this time and previous. As in, I would not be surprised if your ECU had adjusted ignition timing values to compensate.

Anyhow, you should use premium as it will give you the best fuel MPG and just drive conservatively and try to minimize idle time. These J32 TL engines do see fuel MPG reduction with more idle time. Also, hopefully your TL ECU readjusts itself back to where it should be, it was obviously trying to compensate before.

Keep up on your maintenance, your driving environment is harsh to engines so do what you can to keep it up.
