Coming back from road trip. Engine light and gear indicator lights blinking car running rough...any opinions helpful.

getting the codes read would probably be the best course of action.

Hear any strange sound?

+1 for code read blinking [D5] light = problem with trans and you will need a scanner capable of reading those codes

Had a short. Bad ignition coil but here's the kicker. Went to remove bad coil and tube that goes into plug was melted...how the hell am I gonna get melted plastic out of there???

Why I asked if any strange noise is because the problem can be caused by a spark plug that has backed out and the heat has caused the coil pack to melt, esp. #5 cylinder.

There's also been problems with a melted coil(s) some due to the PCM that has had water intrusion from a clogged condensate drain causing the coil to overheat.

Some have taken hours to clean out the head, others have had to remove/replace the head.

turbonut you hit on the nose. shop is picking it up today filed claim with my warranty.
