Unhappy Got reared ended but was hit and run!?

Okay today well about 6hrs (CA 11pm)ago I got hit by a drunk driver in the parking lot and it was a hit and run. Dented my trunk in and cracked my rear bumper in the center, knocked off the Acura emblem. What should I do?? I didn't get to right down his license plate # and there were no cameras around. Anybody have any ideas what the options are to getting it fixed?? Like should I go to a shop and get an estimate and then either go through the insurance or try to buy a whole new trunk and bumper and get it done outta my own pocket?? I'm so piss but sad.

go through your insurnace unless you have an infinite amount of fund to pay out of pocket. fixing everything that was damaged isn't going to be cheap.

the bumper alone is going to run $5-700 (brand new OEM bumper cover with paint). who knows what else was damaged under the cover.

this is why you have insurance. find a a reputable shop then let them take care of the rest with the insurance. this should not count against you (since it wasn't your fault) in terms of raising your rates unless you have some other priors on your record that may make it look like you are accident prone (your fault or not).

yep, insurance.

By law you have to report any accident with damage over $750 or something to the DMV anyway in california. Insurance company will do that for you.

All is not lost just yet. Look carefully at your rear bumper, there might be a license plate # embedded in it.

Did you catch a glimpse of the car make and model? if so, and you have an idea of a lic plate #, you can look it up in here: http://www.bar.ca.gov/pubwebquery/ve...pubtstqry.aspx

Yeah I'm not really worried about the bumper as much as the trunk... It won't even open . I hate drunk drivers. the whole center back is dented in I will update a picture in a little when the rain stops raining, parents wants to kill me . Anybody know if the shop would just take out the huge dents on the trunks or replace the whole trunk?? The bumper has a foot long crack.

i would think a good shop would replace the trunk lid. the latching mechanism may also be damaged as well. if it was me, i'd be asking for a new trunk lid. the bumper cover is done. not sure what else under the cover could be damaged. seems like the drunk hit the car pretty hard to create that much damage. let the insurance take care of it while working with the body shop.

Ouch, what kind of car did that?

Almost looks like it got backed into a pole.

I had a cop rear end mine on the highway here once, left part of his license plate imprinted on my rear bumper he barely touched the car though so it wasn't even noticeable unless you got your face right next to the bumper. Shop still wanted $800 to get it repaired when I got an estimate for my insurance.

Maybe a pickup truck hitting at an angle but if it was it would have left broken tail light parts etc .. but on the other hand there should have been some paint transfer from the other vehicle. If there was parts left behind did you take a pix of them to present to the insurance co. to prove your not scamming them?

You say you didn't get to write down the licence # .. did you get to see the vehicle at all?

Unhappy

The driver that back up on to me step on his gas pedal, was a White Nissan Xterra. Is it bad that I haven't reported to my insurance yet?? I've been busy with work and I was thinking of buying a new rear bumper and trunk too.

I think I found the dude that rear ended me.. But Idk if its him I randomly found out driving around and notice a white nissan xterra with the left tail lights broken and rear bumper kinda dented in, can it be the same driver?? What should I do I have pieces of the back tail lights and he lives really close but idk what approaches I should take.. I am dead serious like what the chances of me seeing the same or similar car right?! This is the first that anything car-related has happen to me, should I call the cops so I can see if the lights match up??

Exactly.

Guy, stop being an idiot (I mean that in the nicest way possible). When you get in an accident first call is the PD to get an accident report and in this case hit & run, second call is insurance.

You DON'T go around days later playing detective and wondering what to do when you find a similar vehicle.

Edit:

And if by any chance you did back into a pole, but haven't figured out how to fess up, my advice is stop posting and move on.

i have never seen a rear end accident like that in a parking lot. sorry, but it just doesnt look right

if you were parked in a lot and someone rear-ends you THAT hard, you would have to have hit a wall or some other car (or stationary object) to keep your car immobile while the other car hit you and did that much damage.

and also, for another car or suv to hit you and cause that much damage, they would have to be going a lot faster than 10 miles an hour to smash your bumper AND trunk like that. i've seen people rear end other cars and even drunks rarely would cause that much damage to a parked car if they "backed in" to it.

my guess is that you backed into a pole or wall corner. no way thats an Xterra or any SUV. it looks like a sharp edge hit. not something like a broad car rear end would do.

Based on this you hit something and i highly doubt a drunk driver hit you. How is it you know that it was a drunk driver?? Also if you saw it happen how is it not possible for you to find out anything at all or even follow a drunk driver??

Op your a retard/ End of thread/

based on that post, its obvious the OP hit a pole.

the pic he posted there shows only the side, which doesnt remotely look like it hit a pole.

so it turns out he did hit a pole, posted a different pic on that thread, then posted this thread tying to play it out that someone hit him.

chances are, he was the one that was drunk and hit the pole.

And this is why you don't post sketchy stories on AZ.

These guys have suspicious minds and they all got straight A's in 'connect-the-dots' in grade school.

Not sold that this was damage from a pole....however I am not sold on the OP's story still. If you notice there is an impact on the lower trunk further left from the impact to the top of the trunk. If it were a pole, wouldn't you assume the impact to each portion would be mostly in a straight line?

So in "theory" the left most impact is the actual bumper of the other vehicle, while the upper damage is the body of the other vehicle. Thinking the lower bumper damage is the exhaust pipe of the other vehicle since it looks like it was torn or punched through.

Remember it doesn't take much to damage a body panel from an impact from a vehicle/pole if the bumper itself is missed. OP, you should have filed a police report when it happened. Turning into insurance is your own call...but your story provides absolutely no reason why you wouldn't have called the police to file a report.

I would say this is scam in progress. I would have reported this to my insurance as soon I determined that nobody was hurt.

perhaps it was a mix of both accidents. I find it hard to believe that the OP drove around for 2 months with his car looking like that, and then created a thread like this. Maybe that's just me.

Look Idc if yall wanna say that Im bullshitting but Im just stating what actually happened to me it was parking lot with front parking and then a parking on the right side so how would hit a wall if they hit me in the center middle and if a I backed up on a pole it wouldn't cause that much damage and yes the first ever post I have posted on here I have backed up to a pole but if you see its not that bad. I don't need attention or trying to bs anybody here that dude stop and then step on his gas which he was 10 inches away from my car thats how he impacted my car with that much colliusion.

that would defy the law of physics.

if that really did happen, consider yourself lucky because you will now be rich beyond your means with this new found discovery. give newton a call and let him know what you've found.

oh, and congrats!

I have his broken tail lights in my car and his license plate # 6FAZ512 because I found where he lives in vista close by and I was in the parking lot that night because there was a party house behind the parking lot thats why I was there; broken tail light on the left rear and dent on his rear left as well. What can I do?? Go confront him with the cops?? If it happened to you guys yall wouldn't be trying to mess around either I'm trying to get the facts down also the workers in that area saw an white xterra drove off that Fri. I will update the location of the place in a little bit I don't have a smartphone and I'm in class right now.

Call the cops and insurance. Dont deal with him face to face or alone. the answer is easy.

the plate checks out to be a white xterra from the dmv smog database. So it's not made up, as in the car does exist.

OP has the pieces of the tail light that should match up, if a paint match cant be made.

First off if it happened to me I would have.

a) Called the police immediatly before I moved anything.
b) Took pix of the site including the broken parts of the other car.
c) Called my insurance.
d) Once you found the vehicle notify the police and let them deal with it.
e) Once you found the witnesses they are only good if 1) they saw the actual collision and can verify by plate # that it was the car, 2) will be willing to testify.

The longer you waited to call police and your insurance the more it works against you . The police may still be able to deal with it by matching up the paint and damages ... BUT let them do it .. you just supply the info.
