Gas Gauge Not Working

I went to go fill up on a Monday night and on tuesday morning my gas gauge read empty. I thought someone took my gas so i went to go get gas again, but the tank was full. I thought it was my fuel pump, but i have been driving it like this for almost a year and the fuel pump still hasnt gone out. All of the other gauges work fine and all of the fuses look good.. HELP WHAT COULD IT BE? The dealer said they havent hear of this happening before.

please tell me you figured out the problem?

I bet Jose is driving without fuel gauge since 2011 :)

Most likely gauge sending unit (float and potentiometer sitting inside the gas tank) failed. Check it out with multimeter. It can be accessed from the trunk - take the spare cover out.

In theory you don't need to take the pump out yet. Resistance must be between 19-790 no matter how much fuel you have. If outside this range it must be bad.

Just change the whole fuel pump assembly and be done with it. At this age it's likely to be wearing out on multiple fronts. I changed mine a year ago and have been fine ever since. Check rockauto for brands and prices.

Maybe be best to first confirm it's the pump and not a wire?

Yeah, but at this age, my bet is on the pump assembly.
