Front wheel slided backwards about one inch

I was looking at my car the other day and I noticed my front wheel on the drivers side has slided backwards about an inch. I bought the car used a couple months ago so this could be a problem it had an I just noticed. Any ideas why this could be happening? What should I do?

Hom much is this going to cost me?!?

(I will try to put a picture up when I get a chance)

Thanks people.

Best,

Rolan

Measure distance center to center front wheel to rear wheel on each side. Check the difference. If it's an inch better get it examined immediately, lower control arm, subframe damage.

Maybe, did you get the car checked out (pre purchase inspection) before you bought it? It looks like that the car could have been in an accident and had some frame damage. Measure the distance from the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel, post the numbers here!

go to an alignment shop and have them check the alignment and redo it if it is off. As well, go to a body shop and have them check the car for frame damage.

I can't imagine the caster being this far off to cause the wheel to be noticably set back, and especially without drivability issues but I hope you're right.

OP, does that car have any problems with the steering wheel not wanting to return to center after making a turn or wanting to return to center too hard?

I agree with Turbonut. Measuring front to rear center to center will determine if it's a mechanical problem or a body issue.

It was a bent Lower control arm. I changed it and the wheel is now sitting as it should.

Just so everyone knows and thanks to the people that tried to help.

peace,
