Over the past couple months I started to hear this ticking rattle that would usually start up randomly on the highway and rough city roads. It sounded like it was coming from the rear deck and I was convinced something must be rubbing on the window or it was a sheet metal seam flexing somewhere.

Turns out it was under the headliner where the oh Sh*t handles attach. The metal mounting bracket would tick when flexing against the frame. The occurred right where it bolts to the roof toward the drivers side.

Also I also discovered the side airbag is wrapped with this very sticky tape that keeps it wrapped up during installation. This tape is very loud when it moves like a piece of cellophane plastic. I'm not sure if was causing audible noise but I felted between the tape and the headliner too.

This rattle source was right inside the headliner where the weather strip is pulled down.

 

Good job- I had an ongoing rattle from my A-Spec pass side sideskirt for 2 years before I finally found it- silence is truly golden. You will really like your TL a lot more now.

 

nice! i had a couple rattles that bothered me for awhile too but eventually I found the source and eliminated them I really do enjoy my car more now lol
