Fan relay replacement... well, which one??

Hey. 2007 Acura TL Type-S. Today I noticed the fan that's supposed to cool off the engine wouldn't initiate (neither of them would, unless I turned on A/C - then both would turn on). I guess it's a relay problem so I wanted to replace it, turns out there's more than one I should replace but it's so confusing I don't know which ones are for the fans I'm attaching pictures of my fuse box and diagram, I'm gonna number the fuses and hopefully one of you will be able to help me. Thanks so much.

Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet - both pictures

I'm guessing I should replace numbers 2, 5 and 4? Or 2 and 3? The diagram is so unclear for my I'm sorry

Have you tried letting your car warm up & get to engine temp? The fan won't initiate until it gets to a certain temp. Gotta ask bc I don't know the whole story...

The fan didn't initiate after driving (without A/C) today at 90s+ for about 30 minutes...

By the way, the coolant temp meter never went above 50%, is the coolant temp sensor broken?

Not necessarily, the temp gauge on your cluster is right. But I wouldn't drive it until you get the fan fixed, if you do you could overheat the engine. You have to figure out why the fan is not turning on; is it because its the fan relay not working or it might be the temperature sensor that initiates the fan.

I could just drive it with A/C on as both fans work then. Anyway I want to replace relays so I'm still waiting for someone to tell me which ones.

Try this link, if it still doesn't work, then its temp sensor

Try the "search" engine next time. Its a great way to find topics in what you're in need of. People usually won't reply unless you've searched & can't find anything on the topic you need help in.

I did before I posted this thread, but if you look at the diagram from the picture I uploaded you'll see the're only pictures of what they relay is for, not actualy info, and number "3" actually has a FAN symbol, that's why I'm hoping for a help from someone who is 100% sure of the ones I should be replacing.

I would replace, #3 & #5. 3- seems to be the fan relay motor just itself, & #5- seems to be the radiator relay; the diagram looks like a radiator.

If both fans work when A/C is on, it's not a relay issue...

OK, let's be sure about the fan locations:

The radiator fan is nearest to the radiator cap, or as you're facing the car, it's on the right. The other fan is the condenser/AC fan.

Relays:

The condenser fan relay is #4 in your picture, the radiator fan relay is #5, but I doubt these are the problem.

Assuming that your description of which fan isn't running is correct, I'd guess that the fan control relay is bad. However, I'm shocked that the temp gauge doesn't rise above 50% in 90 degree heat with the radiator fan not running...Are you sure we're talking about the radiator fan and not the condenser fan?

Yes, NONE of the front fans (condenser and radiator) would turn on if I drove with A/C off. Moment I turn A/C on BOTH of them work. And yes, the temp gauge goes to about 50% (it looks more like 45% tbh) and doesn't go above this. Would it mean the thermostat or the coolant sensor went bad?

I'd still say it's the fan control relay. Get codes read first. Free at any auto parts store. This may be something that is best diagnosed by a professional, dunno.

Also, check fuse #30 in the underdash fusebox.

#30 in the under dash fuse box, not the under hood box. There's a diagram in your owner's manual and also on the back of the fuse box cover...

Top row, 4th from the right...

Yeah I checked #30 underneath the steering wheel and it seems to be ok (replaced it with another one to test - no change). The diagram you posted includes multi-relay box that should be attached to fuse box under the hood... I don't have one, where is it? (the one which contains Fan Control Relay).

No clue, guess they changed things around for the 07 TL-S. You'll need to find a Helm's manual or order a Service Manual or Electrical Trouble Shooting manual. There might be one online somewhere for the 07 TL-S. Do a search, there are links posted somewhere here in this forum...

How long ago did you install that CAI? Are you sure that the ECT sensor was reconnected after install? If the ECT is bad or not connected, you should throw a code. Again, I'd recommend getting your codes scanned just to see if there are any in the system...

I bought the car like this a month ago, it came with CAI. Scanned and no error codes.
