engine whine during acc. @ 2k+ rpm

This just started happening a few weeks ago. My 05 6mt will make a whine noise when Im accelerating and the rpms are at 2k-3k. Anyone have a clue what this could be?

6MT Noise between 2000-2500 rpm

2004 6MT. I have a creaking-wining noise when accelerating between 2000 and 2500 rpm. Does it after every gear change. Not related to the clutch system cause it always does it between 2-2.5k rpm no matter if I accelerate slowly or strongly.

Timing belt is due for a change but the noise seems to come from low driver side.

Anyone else?

Found this while digging in another thread. Seams to solve the problem for several users.

From the March 2006 ACura Service News:

Pinging or Buzzing Between
1,500 and 2,500 RPM
Got a ’03–05 MDX or ’04–05 TL in your shop that
pings, buzzes, or whistles under load with the
engine running at 1,500 to 2,500 rpm? The culprit
could be the intermediate shaft bearing heat
shield. This noise can change with engine
temperature and may be intermittent. Sometimes,
you can hear it only when the engine is cold.
If you suspect the heat shield is making all the
hubbub, try loosening the mounting bolts,
pushing the heat shield as far to the left or right as
you can (the direction doesn’t matter, you just
want to anchor the shield against the bolts), then
tightening the bolts to 21 lb-ft. Be careful,
though, not to overtighten the bolts; if you do,
you could strip them. The heat shield is made to
move around a little bit even when it’s securely
bolted in place, but anchoring it against the bolts
and tightening them will cut down on the
possibility of rattles.
Test-drive the vehicle, and listen for the noise. If
you can’t hear the noise, you’re done. If you can
still hear the noise, hook up a STEELMAN®
ChassisEAR™ diagnostic tool (T/N JSP-SM06600)
and test-drive the vehicle again to track down the
source.

I'll have a look at this shield next week.

It was more of whine than a pinging. sounded like an electric motor. Seems to have gone away or is being muffled by my stage 3 exhaust now.

Do you have a cold air intake?

lmao this is the perfect thread. Today when i was driving my cuzins 01 Buick Park Aveneu or what ever. When i would pass 2k rpm, i would start hearing this whine, ive heard it couple times before when he would drive but i thought it was his alternator. So i open his hood and see a dam 3.8 Supercharged engine under. And i was like holy. So i actually took it for a test drive, and that thing flys, almost as fast as the TL, but the s/c whine gets addiciting.

My stupid car car does this too... its just an annoying winding sound that gets a little louder as you go faster.... its prob just the transmission letting you know its about to go out, bc hondas transmissions are the WORST.... and finally it fades out when you pick up speed because the wind, tires, etc are covering it up.. sucks lol my car is literally falling apart. 05 TL w. I should probably poke around this sub-forum more

I have a similar whine although I don't think it is limited to lower range RPMs...though I'm pretty sure I haven't heard it above 3500. Much more noticeable when I'm driving at highway speeds in 6th, although when I'm in gear around town I hear it as well.

Been doing it for the last 20k or so.

I'm due for the big service pretty soon so if it still is around aft that I guess there is something worth looking into
