Engine replacement, but won't turn over
I just replaced the engine in my 2006 Acura TL. I hooked up the battery and wanted to put the car in neutral and roll it out of the garage before starting it. I found that I could not get the car out of park and with the battery hooked up the key would not come out of the car. TO top it all off, the car doesn't turn over. I can get the key out only after I unhook the battery. This makes me think there is some type of security feature that wont allow me to take the car out of park or allow me to start the car. Is it possible that the car does not recognize this different engine? How do I remedy this? Jim

Im no expert on the subject but I'd say you need to get ahold of a factory scan tool? For GM car its a Tech2. Usually only the dealerships have them but i think mac, snap on, etc makes them. Good luck man.

You need to put your foot on the brake with it on turned to the on position with the battery on to switch it out of gear.
As long as you put the same year range motor in your ok. The only thing that changes is if you swapped out the cars ecu.

Did you replace the ecu?if so,you going to have to tow it to the dealer and reprogram it.
Check this out though,
My brother hydro locked his tsx motor couple years ago ,so we replaced it at a shop..they could not get the car to turn on after new motor was put in...
So we had no choice and towed it to the dealer, they spent hours trying to figure out what was the problem, we even had to buy the ecu from that motor, but in the end the dealer did not use the new ecu
It ended up being a fuse!....don't know which one though..
