Engine movement/Running rough
Hey guys,
I have a 2004 6-speed TL. The car currently has 130k on it. Spark plugs and full 105k service has been performed. I notice when the car is idling, it idles a little rough... Also, the engine seems to be moving a lot. I had a cracked Side mount and replaced that, but still not difference... could it be the other mounts are cracked? any idea?
Thanks in advance.

very possible. if the side one was cracked then most likely the front/rear ones are cracked too. side one wont really change anything, the front and rear ones are the main ones that give u a smooth idle

yes. when the mounts are cracked or broken they dont hold the engine in place securely and absorb the vibrations anywhere. one way to check is to put your car in drive and use the parking brake to hold it in place, then pop your hood and touch the engine and feel if its vibrating more than it should. if it is then the mounts probably are going bad. another way is to brake torque it(more popular method)

I think all my mounts are shot bad, because during accleration i got a skip or vibration, no smooth at all and seems like a lost in power. I am going to inspect them this weekend. I also get a crazy driveline vibration while in N, the door like vibrates/shakes.. scared to even look at them lol

just like paperboy said, if you allready changed the side mount, then most likely the front a nd rear are shot...you have pretty much all the symptoms of bad mounts...if you dont feel satisfied with our knowledge, then just go to a mechanic

Guys,
I had my dad rev the car in N with the hood popped. I didnt notice any drastic engine movement.
Although, at times when the car is idling, the doors shake, its so rough.
All maintence is done and i just cleaned the TB this weekend.
I am still thinking mounts are cracked... due to vibrations/poor shifts etc..
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

thats not a very good test. you're supposed to put it in Drive, hold the brake firmly, and rev it a bit like 2.5k rpm or so. its not supposed to move very much in Neutral, but it will in Drive.
and we've already told you our thoughts, Im telling you its your motor mounts that are bad, and im sure everyone else on here will agree with me
