this morning I noticed a crack on the dash by the air bag. it was only a small tear in the morning and by afternoon it was a full blown crack. since the crack is along the side of air bag, should i be concern with this? will this cause air bag to malfunction? how should i fix this or just leave it alone? can i get some kind of sticky decal to cover this up? thanks in advance for your inputs

Unfortunately, yes, welcome to the club.

I also have the crack. It also is by the passenger airbag and got a few inches bigger since I first saw it half a year ago (I think 99% of the cracks start in the exact same place). I just hope it doesn't get any bigger. Some people here are less fortunate and their dash is cracked everywhere.

 

will this affect air bag function? if not then i'm gonna leave it alone then. does lexus and bmw have this problem?

 

It shouldent. Ive seen wrecked TL's that have had cracked dashboards.

You're fortunate that your car sits in your garage, so the spreading wont happen too quickly, but just know, it spreads everywhere. ive posted some pictures of my dash, which is arguably the worst on the forum, and it went everywhere.

I dont think Lexus and BMW have this issue. Such issues do occur other automakers though. I know my dads Jaguar had a portion of his dash crack. My friends S10 also had his dash split. Dodge Rams are notorious for dash cracking. Im sure there are probably other manufacturers that have similar issues, but im not aware of them all. Its usually in the hot states (Florida, Texas, So Cali, Arizona).

yeah good luck, acura didnt really help me out. Dash mat ftw! Also acura said it DOES NOT affect air bag deployment. So cant use that argument lol
