Cracked J-Pipe and Oil Pan

So today I was driving and I went over those metal plates that they put on the street during construction, and that shit cracked my J-pipe pretty fucking bad and I have a hairline crack on my oil pan. The crack on the oil pan is above the J-pipe and its about an inch long. Drops of oil is leaking from my and it right now sounds like a ricer civic now. I'm gonna replace my j-pipe with my cousins stock one from his accord, but what should I do with the oil pan? Will warranty cover it? weld it back?

Take out your coils and go to the dealer.

Umm yeah, an oil pan being cracked by a foreign object is not going to be covered under warranty, regardless of the car's height.

Since the car is lowered warranty won't pay for any of it. I suggest you call up the city and file a report and claim with them for their negligence in putting the plate that high up. It'd have to be at least an inch or two EASY off the surround ground in order to cause that much damage.

I fail to understand why people think that something ACURA has nothing to do with (i.e. you hit something in the road) would be covered under warranty.

I like Turbonut's idea - take it up with insurance. They may be able to get $$ back from the city/state/contractor that put that plate in the road. They have a whole department of people whose job is to recover money from 3rd parties.

Oh, and FWIW: Acura TL - 0 Manhole - 1. His J-Pipe just got ripped off; the oil pan survived.

I wonder if people also think the dealer will pay for new tires if you get nails in them, or pay for a new windshield if a rock cracks it?

Warranty will not cover that. I would replace the oil pan instead of trying to weld it.

Ok maybe I fail to realize what kind of metal plate but other than banging the crossmembers on a speed bump there shouldn't be anything out that at even a lowered height that should crack your oil pan. Can you imagine the impact an oil pan would have to take. if only a jpipe and oil pan is the only damage you have thats cheap compared to what you could have had. Both are cheap compared to say a cracked block if you are actually taking that kind of abuse. Oil pan and jpipe are both easy to weld and paint other damages not so much.
