Clutch replacement after 28000 miles
I have a 2006 TL with a six speed tranmission. What a shocker I got Saturday when I went to the dealer and he told me I probably need a new clutch. My complaint was that when you depressed the clutch there was a noise (in the cabin) which sounded to me like a spring or something needed to be lubricated. He claims that the clutch felt "soft" when depressed, however, I drive the car every day and it seems the same to me as when I first got the car. He then drove it about 50 feet to where his service manager was standing and after about 30 seconds of discussing this with him and walking back towards me we went inside. The TL only has 28000 miles, the majority of which are highway miles. I have had several manual transmissions and only replaced a clutch once on a 73 beetle with over 100,000 miles. I think I've been had. The shop appeared pretty empty for a Saturday morning and I can't help but wonder if I truly do need a new clutch.
Any feedback I can get would be greatly appreciated.
Thx.

get a second opinion-take it to a transmission place and see what they say. I know clutch can get worn out easily (resting your foot on them, etc) but sounds wierd to me. I have owned numorous vehicles and never had clutch problems with any of them (way over 100,000 miles on most of them) Good luck
28,000 miles is WAY to little mileage to have a clutch go out unless something is very wrong with the components or the driver's technique. And even if the technique is bad, that is still awefully low mileage for a replacement. All things considered normal, you should expect at least 6 to 8 times that mileage or more before doing a replacement.
Definitely get other opinions on this.

Like the other replies, I agree that 28K is too few miles for a clutch replacement, also considering your previous experience with manual transmission cars. Due to the unusual pressure plate arrangement on the TL, this clutch feels very different to other Honda's and Acura's I've driven with manual tramissions (with both mechanical and hydraulic clutch actuators). I would have it checked out with a different dealer.
yea id also call acura on this issue.....theres a lot of reports with bad clutches on the type s maybe u can get something worked out for partial warranty if replacement is needed..pay something minimal on it so u can get it done properly. I called them on it and I have an 05 because the throw out bearing and spring are trashed....and they said to bring the car in to replace the required pieces no question asked...... I brought it to a separate tranny place to have it inspected after acura told me everything was ok with the noise that was being made by the tranny....uuhhhh theres no noise thats supposed to come from the tranny. lol

it's prob fine, the noise in the cabin a crunching kind of noise.
All I do is you remove the dash under cover so you can see where the clutch pedal goes up under dash. You can see the rod that goes forward, when you push in the clutch you can see like a hole around that rod that opens up. This is the shaft going into the clutch master. Well, while you have that pushed in spray some lubricant in there. White lithium grease or a thick silicone spray would work. I use Honda's Lock lube in it. Takes care of that noise pretty well. But if that is the noise the clutch master is also covered by warranty and acuracare

I took my 2004 TL in for the recalls and complained about the "click" in the clutch pedal. I don't know what they did but they fixed it. My car has 75k on it and the clutch is still fine-I think they were trying to sucker you.
read the other threads on this matter!
Its happening with low miles- 14k -28 are in recent notes here.
The TL uses a special internal adjuster to keep the clutch feel constant thru its life.
If the owner before you abused the clutch- it could have destroyed the plate or disc
Service Writers are made of 90% fiction- thats why they are called WRITERS
The service tech or manager is more likely to have specific vehicle knowledge, but a test drive is what tells the tech for sure whats wrong.
Saturday is always a bad time for real service needs- its oil change guys day to work....
2nd opinions are well worth it. The TL of -course- requires special tools and procedures to replace the clutch -its not a normal cheap fix- its about 2500-2800 at the dealer

Dude I am having the same issue. I have 70K miles now and they are saying I need a new clutch. 2300 dollars for parts and labor. I have owned manuals all my life hondas with up to 130K miles and never need a new clutch. My car is a 2006 and I have driven highway miles but there is no way I need a clutch right now. But what do I do.
