clutch question

I have never owned a manual trans untill this car, perhaps its be but i think the clutch seems like there is very very little play. Could this be because there is a new clutch in it and it just has to break in? Another problem i noticed about my trans is the 4-5 shift the shifter doesnt seem to want to slide to the right, or perhaps im just being overly critical.

I've had a bunch of MTs of various types (over the last 22 years) and the TL is a very light and quick clutch. It will probably get a bit less "grabby" but you will also get used to it. Hang in there. But, even after a year and a half I still can't always get started in1st gear as smoothly as other cars I've had. Just resist the temptation to "gas it". I'd rather stall occasionally than spin or smoke the clutch at every start. I'm pretty hard on myself so maybe that's part of it.

The transition from 4->5 also took getting used to for me as well. Again, with time, you will get used to it. I remember very well what you are talking about. You will get used to the little extra push to the right to get it to go into 5. I don't even notice this any more.

Search around for some of Southernboy's posts on driving an MT. He's posted an excellent writeup in several posts. Best to get you started off with good habits.
