clutch problem I guess...

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my TL's MT :

When I am in high gear (3-4-5-6) at ''normal'' RPM 2-3K and I slam the accelerator, the motor revs increases by 1000RPM with no acceleration and then falls back to 3k and the car starts to accelerate. I went to the dealer with the car and they said that the clutch was fine... So something is slipping but I don't know what.

In first or second gear, I can accelerate as hard as I want and everything is fine and the problem has been there for the past 4 months.

The clutch is the only thing that allows slippage between the engine and the tires when in gear. You're on the right track.
Weak pressure plate? Glazed over mating surfaces? Contaminated disc? Your transmission didn't get over filled about 4 months ago, did it?

its gotta be either the clutch or flywheel. when i changed clutch/flywheel due to the same problem, i noticed that my clutch was actually still ok BUT the flywheel was TOAST somehow. they was ALOT of play is the dampening system of the dual mass flywheel when compared to a new OEM flywheel. not sure what could have caused it but i attibuted my slipping issue to this observation. g' luck and let us know your findings

Classic symptom of a slipping clutch. Get this fixed as soon as you can.

But why does the phenomena appends only at high speed and not when the car has more "power" ?

If you are referring to it not doing it in the first 2 gears, it's cause well...they are lower. The load on a clutch is less in lower gears. Think about the good old multispeed bicycle. How hard do you have to push down on those pedals to make it go in first gear? How hard in 21st gear?
Your engine doesn't have any more power in those first 2 gears than the other gears. It just has less of a load due to gearing.

Yep, that's it. If the clamping pressure of the pressure plate can still handle the car's resistance to acceleration in, say, first and second gear, the clutch will not slip in those gears. However, as the slipping grows more severe, it will begin to occur in all of the gears.
