climate control and navigation buttons not illuminating everything else works.

ok guys I'm new too this car and although I love it man is been hard. so I went to replace a couple of lights that were out in the navigation climate control unit. I disconnected everything took it apart and waited fort my bulbs. I noticed when I went to install the leds I needed to have it on so I could check polarity. I could not get any bulbs to turn on. I re- installed the old bulbs to check if it was a continuing current and nothing. all other lights interior wise work, no fuses blown, all buttons work just no illumination behind the buttons around navigation. i have seen other discussion on this but no one ever answers it. any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty sure nothing blew. i didn't cross any wires ect.

So I've been through that recently, and made the mistake of adjusting the polarity hot -- with a metal screwdriver. There was a sizzle, a puff of smoke followed by burning smell coming from the unit. No illumination but the unit still worked. That was a $300 mistake, and I hope you hadn't done the same.

Passing on my own experience: I went to replace the bulbs on the NAV and AC buttons with LEDS. Lazy and didn't disconnect battery. Shorted out one while it was plugged in and lost all of the ones around the NAV display. The issue was I blew the FET transistor that controls the dimming function. So it was either replace the transistor or get a new NAV (the transistor is mounted in the NAV circuit board). Didn't want to do either so I tapped the bulb power to the light in the center console arm rest. Got it to work with some wire and minimal soldering. Replacing the side buttons would not work (for me) as they had nothing to do with the problem. Hope it works out for you whatever you do. Good luck.

Replacing these bulbs with the battery connected is playing with fire, unfortunately.

Luckily someone is selling the button modules on the Black Market right now...

If you are unfortunate enough to make the mistake of changing bulbs while having it powered up, then you can fix it by replacing Q804 (2SJ377) in the navigation unit on the 2006 Acura TL. It is on the board that is closer to the display.
