Check engine light has come on twice, but turns off next day

Ok, so this has happened to me two times.

First time, I was down to 10 miles left on my display and on the way to the gas station the check engine light popped on. I filled it up and called my dealership but they only do oil changes over the weekend, so I said I would call them back. Later in the evening of the next day I was going for a short drive and the light went off.

I thought possibly it came on because I ran it so low on gas it was screwing with some sensors (not a mechanic, no clue what I'm talking about). After this I always tried to fill it up before it went below a quarter of a tank.

Second time, 4 weeks later. I'm start my car up from the garage in the morning 5/6 tank full, check engine light is on. Very next day on my way home from work I provide it a little extra gas to get up a hill and it goes off again.

Should I be worried about this? Can I wait until I take it in to the dealer for an oil change? Does the system store the code for the light somewhere? Or does the light still need to be on when I physically take it to the dealer?

Nope 2004 TL, 32k miles. Totally stock, have had it for about a year without any issues.

I took it into the dealership for the power steering hose fix about 2 days before the light came on the first time, so maybe they messed something up while in there.

I'm assuming the light needs to still be on when I do this right?
