Check Engine Light After LED Installs

I had installed LED turn signals on Feb. 15th after installing my blacked out headlights. Just a couple of days ago, my CEL came on and I thought it would go away. When it didn't, I went to AutoZone to get it read and it gave me 2 error codes.

P0154 - OBDII
P2254 - Rear AF sensor 21 VS line high voltage
Probable Causes:
1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Poor electrical connection
3. Failed AF sensor

I had checked to make sure that all headlights connections were secure and tightened. Also, I don't have load resistors installed yet and was wondering if this could be a result of it. However, I had asked another friend who had installed LEDs without load resistors and his CEL doesn't come on. Has anyone encounter this before? Search can't seem to narrow down my requests.

No one has ever encountered this problem? I'm going to try to clear the ECU by disconnecting the battery tomorrow to see if that'll help. If not, I might have to take it to the dealer.

On top of that, my passenger side headlight has condensation when it's pretty cold out. So, maybe the two are related or not.

I never had problems with my LEDs... got all my LEds from superbrightleds.com ... the same ones everyone else recommended... been ok for several months now.

Perhaps it's just the airflow sensor as the obdII suggests, and it's just coincidental.

Where is this airflow sensor located? I've tried to clear the ECU and the CEL went away momentarily, but came back again.

there are at least two AF sensors .. one near/at the throttle body, and one in the exhaust portion (dont' know specifically where)

The airflow sensor at the throttle body is easily visible when looking in the engine bay, look along the air intake and you'll find the throttle body with a black plug hooking up to it.

OK - thanks. I'll look into that when I get home from work today.

The plug at the throttle body was plugged in securely. I even unplugged it and re-plugged it back in and the CEL is still on. Guess it's off to the dealer to diagnose further.

may be that the actual sensor is dead or defective... or of course the other sensor may have issues... let us know

You were right about the sensor being defective. Dealer had called me saying that it was a bad O2 sensor. I just don't know how that could have gone bad in an almost 4 year old car besides the slight mod I have. Well, at least I now know the source of the CEL.

thankfully the warranty is special length on all smog parts, so they will pick up the O2 sensor for you

Ever run less than 91 octane?

If your signals flash fast you need the resistors- the LED pulls so little load it fools the system into thinking it has a dead bulb.
Years ago it was decided that would be the indicator to the driver of a problem with bulb- make the system flash fast when load is reduced,,good safety idea

Some companies build the resistor in- so called-` load balanced leds` and will take care of themself

your exhaust may have contributed to the O2 failure

No warranty since I'm over 60K now. It was paid out of pocket. And the only time I had put something in that was less than 91 was when we had our "gas crisis" over the past summer where the only thing left was 87 octane. And no, I didn't use octane booster and I was only aware of that after the fact.

Resistors have been ordered and they'll be put on this weekend. As for my exhaust, I've had that on for over a year now and it had tested fine during emissions last year.

Hey there.... I just installed 2 led strips on my 2000 sportage under the headlights. After driving for 30 min, the engine light comes on. I'm 100% is the led because nothing was wrong with my car, and that just happened today, after I installed it.
My LEDs are running on 12V. And I connected them to my cigaret lighter fuse in the fuse box.

Maybe with a resistor it will work better?

Did you install a resistor after all?

Lighting doesn't affect the check engine light.
Not your LEDs guaranteed.
What is the code?

Although we're a friendly bunch willing to help a lot of people, you realize this is an Acura discussion forum (and more precisely Acura TL 3rd gen) and thus most of our expertise would be with this car?
