Car is Devouring Coolant
So I had a coolant leak and ended up getting a new reservoir tank for my TL-S. When I removed the old tank and emptied the coolant i found it was missing a rubber stopper and that was probably causing the leak. The leak was visible as I could see coolant sprayed on and around the reservoir tank.
Now with the new tank I don't see any visible coolant leak, but each time I check the tank is back below the minimum fill line. Not sure what's going on here, I probably drive about 4 miles a day to and from work. Any ideas? |
Do you refill it between drives?

It could just the radiator is sucking in coolant very normal.

When the engine is cool. Remove the radiator cap. If the coolant is above the aluminum fins inside, you are full and should not be taking in coolant.

Just checked and it wasn't. Topped the tank back off to the max line. I'll take a look again after I get to work tomorrow. Thanks dude.

if you keep having to top off the radiator itself, then you have a leak somewhere else. Then it's time to remove the lower splash shield and take a look, also by the coolant lines by the throttle body + the heater hoses + heat exchanger piece on top of the transmission.

I read it as he was checking the rad overflow tank, and not the radiator itself.

With the amount he is pouring in, idle it and look for leaks under the car. If there’s a leak, you Will notice it per your mentioned loss amount.

pressure test cooling system, be sure to put heat on max and burp air from system when filling up with coolant

Any coolant puddling on the pavement? Check your heater control valve (on the firewall, do a search for a DIY by Majofo). My HCV literally melted and that's where I was losing coolant. Another possibility is your water pump weeping fluid....

After the last refill it's stayed at the max line. I guess it was just flowing to the radiator like normal. No leak! 😁
