Burned 1 1/2 quart

What's u guys, I am the proud owner of a 08 TL-S with 55,300 miles. Long time lurker, first time poster. I have had my new ride for just over 30 days, and put less than 2k miles on it, and I just topped the oil off for the third time with a 1/2 quart. So roughly a month and a half, and I have burned 1 1/2 quarts of oil??? I say burned, because there is no sign of a leak in my garage. I have not drove the hell out of the car or anything. However, both the fronts were nearly bald, with brand new rears when I bought it, so I assume the last owner drove it pretty hard, but what could be causing that much to burn? I am going to call Acura tomorrow, I should have the factory 70k powertrain right, and that is transferable? Also, do they charge me anything to look at it??

Thanks guys!!

Do a wet compression test. You might have a bad oil ring.

Thanks, I am not exactly sure how to do that, but I will research it a little bit tomorrow. If that happens to be what it is, powertrain warranty would cover that, right?

He means do a compression test without unhooking the ignition/fuel system, I'm guessing. Pull the plugs out, use the compression tool and have someone crank the car for 4-5 seconds @ WOT. Do this for all cylinders. Repeat 2-3 times for consistency.

If one happens to be low, add some (like a teaspoon) oil directly in to that cylinder and test the compression again. If it is higher after adding the oil, then it is the rings. If it stays low, it's in the valves or your head gasket is leaking.

Post up the results.. any weird numbers can usually be a tell-tale sign of different problems that I'm sure we could help you diagnose or at least point you in the right direction. Good luck.

^ what he said.

Test for consistency, then test to diagnose the problem.
