Brake switch issue all too commom?
I was reading some posts here and it seems that the brake switch failure which causes the warning symbol and VSA indicator to come on, is a common problem to many here. My problem was that the warning + VSA also resulted in me not being able to shift the tranny from P to D (override button seem to still work). I didn't even think to check the brake lights and I drove 270+ miles last night. So, low-and-behold: no brake lights whatsoever.

i had the same prob and they replaced the switch. I hope this one holds up better than the factory one

My problem was similar, but different. After Barb and I got home from our anniversary lunch/dinner yesterday, 56 years, I happened to go out in the garage and noticed the brake light was on on the Acura. It happened before about 10 or 12 years ago and it was the brake light switch that tells the light to come on when the brake is depressed.
I couldn't turn the light off, so I had to remove its fuse so as not to run the battery down. Anyway, I decided to try Auto Zone for a new switch and they had it in stock for $28. I bought it and was pretty proud of myself for changing it in 15 minutes. I checked to see if the light had gone out, and it was on dammit.I looked more closely and the switch actuator was going through the brake pedal bracket and not being actuated. I found some small plastic pieces on the floor of the car that must have been a little pad that actuated the switch. With it gone, the actuator was free to not be depressed. Back to Auto Zone and they were nice enough to take the part back and order the small plastic deal to make it right. I could jerry rig something to make it work, but for $8, I'll do it right although it'll take 4 days to get it. At least I know what the problem was.
