Battery Died

Alright so my battery died this morning after sitting for the weekend in 1 foot of snow and cold weather. I started it yesterday to move it to clean the driveway off so I figured it would be fine.

I know cold weather can drain the battery but I am wondering if it my Dice Ipod adapter (also charger) caused enough drain so that it wouldn't start. I usually leave it in my car and have never had problems before. Do you think this could be my problem?

Thanks!

well first of all how old is your battery? if it is fairly new i would say recharge it then see if it works. If not then buy a new battery with good cranking amp's cause i see you live in buffalo N.Y. pretty cold up there lol.

I purchased the car 2 years ago and I believe the battery was replaced a year prior. So 3 years - this is the second battery.

I was going to get a new battery but I am just wondering if the combination of my ipod drain (if the dice is on when the care is off) and cold weather are the reason.

these days a gen3 is lucky to get 3 years from a battery- tight and hot in the engine area kills them

Starting the car and running for just a minute will suck loads of juice out, and not have a chance to recharge the battery from sitting and starting-
really really bad to start the car -move it and shut off
If you start it,, drive it 10-15 minutes with no extra load on the alt, that also dries the moisture from the oil and 45 minutes on freeway will dry the exhaust

Its common for battery failures in the onset of winter,,at the shop we kept extra in stock. More use of headlights- heater- seat heater etc all put strain on the battery- which after a while gets tired and crudded up inside leaving it unable to recharge

Make sure to test the system for correct volts and amps

On new battery- it will be slightly low on install, drive 30-45 minutes at freeway rpm with no extra electrical items in use- so the alternator can deal only with the battery condition- then get it retested at parts store- usually free especially with purchase

Check your HFL to see if it is draining your car. even is winter time a battery should have enough juice to start the car 3-4 times.......

Edit: I knew my battery was toast when my lights would flicker when i started the car. My acura battery lasted 8 years
