"At an average of 19mph, my average was 13mpg"
Is this absolutely normal? cuz i am getting the same data you have. I live in NYC. the MPG is killing me up here.

125k miles, i'd start looking into valve adjustment, check compression, worn rings blah blah blah... again you haven't answered what kind of spark plugs did you use when you changed them, along with your water pump and the rest.
It's not uncommon to have cylinder wear...i know 3 TL motors just went like that outta blue. Mainly due to constant abuse, high reving at all times.
How's your oil levels, or you don't check?
You seriously need to supply more info on your case...now one is gonna be able to help with a simple "low gas milage, and loss of power"....that can be due to many things.

i had the same problem with my 04 tl. same codes and all. the problem is the ecu. have you taken it in to get re programed? it fixed my mpg issue and codes. there is a know fact that the ecu had a few issues. i strongly recommend looking into getting it flashed.

Not so fast there Justn...
Actually, his exact quote was:
There were indeed some issues with the 04 ECM/PCM. Not sure if they are related to his problem, but there is at least one TSB for reflashing the 04 ECM/PCM...
And part of the Service Manual procedure for a lone P0171 code is to reset the ECM/PCM and perform the idle learn routine....

Bad choice in trans fluid also. Search around, Acura fluid is about the worst fluid you can put in your trans is you have an auto.

^^ IHC,
I think he mentioned his was an MT.
OP, man...I asked if you notice anything in oil levels...meaning, is the car consuming oil or not. If so how, much?
We keep asking you questions to answer your "single questions"

I'm getting dumb in my old age or maybe just lazy. Anyway, I'm out of this thread. The people responding are putting in more effort than the OP.

I noticed that I'd been consistently driving aggressively and netted 18mpg last tank...then, I tried to granny it to bring that up and was bogging like crazy and still got 18. I pulled the negative to the battery to relearn my driving style and, so far so good.
Basically, pull the ECU fuse or disc the battery if you are going to change your driving style for a while.

I'm @ 87K and my TL is completely stock my gas mileage is horrible i figured it must be to the crappy BFGoodrich Super Sport A/S's I had to replace the Turanza's with. Most driving is to and from work in upstate new york

Did you do the 3x3 procedure? What fluid did you use?
If this was indeed caused by transmission slippage, I'd also replace your filter/strainer and then go back and do another complete 3x3 flush. I'm going to guess that your fluid was replaced at least once before since this change didn't kill your transmission. Also, I'd read up on the AT fluid threads and go with something other than the Acura fluid.

Hmmmm....Well, I'm glad your problem seems to be fixed, but I must admit I'm a bit skeptical...

320 miles is about 24 mpg if memory serves me right. So thats a high multi day average for mix of city and highway driving. But just to compare..I drove from Dallas to Tulsa for thanksgiving and last year I averaged with a clean reset, about 34 or 35 mph on the highway.. thats no stopping. But this year I only averaged about 24 on the highway. And that was also with no stopping. I'm not sure if its accurate this time. Usually, on the highway, if I reset it, it stays high like 30+. And it will stay there if I dont stop. But this year, it started out high, like 31 and immediately started dropping all the way down to 23 or 24 and that was on the road to tulsa without stopping. So, i'm not sure what happened. I got new tires but these tire should actually be helping the MPG because they are harder and they make the steering feel lighter and less resistance. And they may be a tick taller than my last tires even though they are the same size according to the number. So, I dont know why the MPG dropped. I did notice that when I slowed down from 75 like down to 60, I think the MID MPG reading started to go up for a minute.. So, I still need to test more.. but something is weird. And I think I'm not the only one. I need to do a manual check.

And also, I always drive the same way out on the open road at about the same speed. Which is within 3 mpg of the speed limit. no more than 5 when cruising. I mean the speed limt is 70 and 75 in southern oklahoma. haha thats pertty fast. So what I am saying, my driving habits arnt any different now than last year. So, it shouldnt be 2/3 of what it was last year. regardless if I am doing 75 or 65. Thats why I want to take a manual reading and observe it a bit more. I'll post back later

well, I hear ya.. but the thing is, it started off high then dropped rapidly. At a fresh reset, It's supposed to calculate based on your current speed and conditions. So why drop, then drop then drop if I am not moving the pedal.. That doesnt make sense..

Tire type and fuel have a large effect. Mileage will drop in the winter time due to winter fuel. OEM tires are low rolling resistance, just about any aftermarket tire you replace it with will not be low rolling resistance. There's probably .5 in the tires and up to 2mpg in the fuel. I'm not saying this is your issue but it's something to keep in mind.

I dont think rolling resistance is my issue, otherwise the steering wouldnt have gotton lighter when I switched to these V12's and also they ride a bit firmer so 2 things pointing to less rolling resistance if anything. which would help it get better fuel economy.
So anyway, I checked my gas mileage doing it the old fashion way, from Tulsa to Dallas over Christmas break. And the car said I averaged 28MPG but the manual reading showed 24.7MPG. So, actually the car meter reading was higher than actual. Now, I could have gotton a bit better gas mileage if I didnt have to go through those real small towns where you blink an eye and the town is gone, but there are 2 that are a bit bigger than that.. And they actually have a few stop lights. But still, those few small stops are averaged into the whole distance between the states, so I dont think it impacts the mileage that much. If anything, it might show 1 MPG better aver the entire haul. So I think the 2 numbers are pretty accurate.. however the part that is confusing is the variance between actual and what the car meter shows. And why did it change all of a sudden? And did you know a Corvette Z06 is rated at 26MPG on the highway? And that has 500+ horsepower. So it seems this TL doesn't really get such great gas mileage compared to a Z06 especially in relation to the horsepower and number of cylinders and cubic inches. So overall, still some unanswered questions that I think nobody can really answer with any certainty. oh well.

I am sort of in the same boat, currently. My commute is 55 miles daily with most of it on the highway. My average MPGs has gone down significantly over the past 6 months or so, rather than being a sudden decrease, it has been more of a gradual one. About a year ago my average MPG use to be 33~35 mpg and now its down to 20~23 mpg
One thing thats worth mentioning here is that one of my friend who has an 02 TL and drives close to 60K miles a year suggested getting the car serviced at the Acura dealer. He mentioned that his TL gets serviced every 6 months as right after service he attains an average MPG of 35 mpg compared to 25 mpg which is what he gets towards the end of the 6 month period. To him its worth getting the service done every 6 months due to the high mileage he racks up during the time.
I plan on giving my Acura dealer a call and see if the same service is what I'd need to get back into the mid 30s mpg.

If his 3rd gen is telling him he is getting 33 mpg, his car is screwed up too. That's not right and that is higher than the MFG has rated these cars by probably 30% or more. And that doesnt happen. Manufacturers always rate optimum. And anyone who thinks the dealer puts a back of tricks in your car is smoking something good. It's kinda like having your car "winterized". So, put anti freeze in it... oh you mean you dont run antifreeze/coolant year round? whatelse is there that you should be doing year around?
