Automatic Transmission Issue,

Hey guys,

Ive just changed my ATF with the Redline fluid again for the 3rd time. Usually every 30k to 40k miles

Never had any issues before with this, now all of a sudden with this fluid change, the transmission is not responding.

The level is correct, never had any gear slipping before doing this or issues with the tranny.

The car will not go in gear "Drive or Reverse".

Any thoughts on this???

So,

I decided to make a run to the auto parts store and bought some off the shelf ATF and the seafoam additive.

Not sure why but the car is running fine now. I guess I had a bad batch of the Redline ATF which is really odd.

Anyone ever experienced this before???

It can't be the fluid, I've literally run automatics off of engine oil and one on straight tap water. They will move on any fluid, something else happened.

Did it act like it was in neutral?

I'm curious as to what would have happened here, I changed the fluid as I always do and the transmission was TOTALLY unresponsive.

Is it possible that the Redline that I had, since it was "old" and not recently purchased and A/C kept "as in sitting in my garage for about a year", could that have an effect?

In other words does it have a shelf life? At the end of one of the bottles, there was a gelatin like sedimentation. Which I did not put into the car, however It was very soft. I was able to stir this up and it liquefied again almost like a sugar.

Something like that,

During the first test drive with the redline fluid, I was able to get the car in Reverse, I backed out of my driveway, drove about 50 ft. down the street as the car was not as responsive as it was while in reverse.

So I decided to reverse back to the driveway and when going back to drive I had no response.

I chalked my front and rear tires, pulled the E-brake and let the car sit for a few minutes watching, I could see that the transmission was really trying to engage but only a few shutters but it never engaged.

This is when I changed the fluid again, and the problem went away, it immediately engaged with the new fluid.

Here is a really interesting thread that I found in this subject.

He also said that he has seen settling happening in the redline bottles. Customer service said there is no shelf life with Redline. I'm wondering if there was a bunch of this sediment that got in from the other bottles which went unnoticed.

This is really weird. I don't want to insult you, I don't mean this in a bad way but are you completely sure the level was ok, verified on the dipstick.

You're completely right, additives will fall out over time and the bottle should be shaken. But even with no additives, just pure oil it should still drive. I've literally filled a failing transmission up with water from the hose and driven it across town and it shifted nice. Im at a loss if the level was fine.

A single drain and fill would leave half of the old oil in there. I don't see any way it could not work.
