ACURAZINERS yay or nay stealership!!!!!

Good afternoon guys. i had some knockin and vibrating noise coming from the right side of the engine bay near the pulleys and belt.

took it to the dealer and they said my warranty was up for 2007 tl that i just bought last year. i had 66k on it they said it was up at 60k. neway he hinted to the fact that it could be the tensioner. he also said he wouldnt know to they took it apart in their book thats 3 hours labor just to get down to the problem diagnosed.

#DEAL OR NO DEAL?# understanding this did not including fixing it with the new part so basically he quoted the job at 760(yea like i said he hinted the problem that probably is the problem )

can you guys help me out on what to do i really dont have 760 right now but i dont want the engine to be damaged either. here is a video of the noise

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3iVC44qXFM

*the video doesnt show that the tensioner is vibrating

is this a job that can be done at home? and what tools will i need? Thanks

I usually go to recommended/honest honda acura shops because the dealer is always trying to rape people

sorry for the trouble you're going thru...this is why an extended warranty is important to have. you may never need to use it, but it's better to have one and need it than to need one and not have it.

could be a simple fix, could be very involved and expensive. i'm with you tho...i don't like dealerships. i was just screwed over at one last week and i'm still fighting to get the issue resolved. good luck to you.

i'm not sure what to tell you, but i can bet you that someone will chime in and let you know what your options are.

depends on your relationship with your dealer. if you have history with them...they'll be more willing to work with you.

you can always go to a reputable indy that works on honda's and acura's as sharksbreathe said.

bottomline is you pay for what you get. not to say the dealer is always right or does the most outstanding work, it all depends. so tough call.

i have a working relationship and history with my dealer and i've been pleasant but firm in my requests for services to be done. the more knowledge you come in with, then they will be less likely to fleece you. try and negotiate with them and see if they'll budge.

If you want to diagnose where the problem is, this is coming from my dad which is a 40+ year experience mechanic, get a long flat head screw driver and use the screw driver like a speaker.

In other words put the tip next to the pulleys and put your ear on the handle; the noise will travel to the top and where you hear the noise the loudest is where the problem is.

From what I can see, 2007 Acura TL Warranty Program
Basic 4 year / 50,000 miles
Drivetrain 6 year / 70,000 miles
Roadside 4 year / 50,000 miles
Rust 5 year / Unlimited miles

That's what I think too.

Not to mention 2 or 3 TSB's related to noise in this area.

OP, check the TSB Page: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-technical-service-bulletins-tsbs-3g-garage-j-016-a-613659/

Use the instructions at the top of the post to access the TSB's. Then find the one closest to your problem and check the VIN range. If applicable, take that info with you to a different (honest) dealer.

From the warranty book:

A Quick Reference to Warranty Coverage

This is a brief summary of the warranties covering your 2007 Acura. Please refer to the listed page for a full description of each warranty's coverage and limitations.

New Vehicle Limited Warranty . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9
Every new Acura is covered, except for tires, for 4 years or 50,000 miles. The tires are warranted separately.

Powertrain Limited Warranty . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 10
The powertrain in your new Acura is covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles.
