Acura: 'Engine Mount Causes Vibration and Damage'

Just read something from the NY Times quoting a TSB publication regarding the 04-08 TLs:

So I'm guessing this isn't a recall, but more of an expensive repair? Is this like something from 'Fight Club' where they know the problem exists, but it hasn't really killed anyone worth a hefty lawsuit settlement so instead of Acura footing the bill they'll let us know about it, just not fix it?

If this is old news sorry, I haven't been as active here since my 05 ABP/Camel 6MT Navi got flooded out last fall. If anyone knows of or has that 04-06 in that spec and might be selling - please let me know!

Engine mounts are considered a "wear and tear item", therefore Acura won't foot the bill to have them replaced. The more you drive your car, the more the mounts are worn down.

I replaced my side and front mount for $120 bucks. DIY - side = piece of cake. Front = the 4th bolt in the corner - second biggest pain in the 4$$ next to the new and stupid oil filter cartridge in the 2010 Corollas.

Not if it's still under warranty?

now is this part of the drivetrain warranty? if not, i think the wear and tear issue seems like it. I, too, am feeling vibrations during idle.

Does anybody know where I can find a listing of all the TSBs. I've taken my 08 TL to the dealer 3 times for vibrations and they keep telling me it's normal.

I want to get a copy of the TSB and take that with me next time.

I can only speak for the 06 but the mounts ARE covered under the power train however they have to see that they are damaged before they will replace any of them. They replaced my side mount under the warranty.

Dealers will only replace mounts if they are severely broken/cracked/ripped with low mileage on them. As well TSB's are meant for dealers to not waste time and acura's money chasing down a problem.

I don't know how long my front engine mount has been cracked, but it was discovered during my tranny swap at 107K. $260 repair.

Thanks for the info. I have an 06 too and at the current mileage, it might be hard to convince them to replace it. The vibrations are not excessive but can be felt, especially when you lean your head on the headrest.

I just got back from the dealer this morning complaining about a possibly damaged mount. They said they all checked out fine but I'm certain something is wrong with the symptoms I'm having. Does anyone know the procedure for checking mounts?

I don't know what the mount costs but if they were pulling the trans out anyway, it added on about 15 seconds to the repair. Hopefully that was all for the part and not labor.

That's the f'd up part -- he said $260 is what they charge w/o labor, yet when I got my invoice, it said $190 for the part, $70 for the labor. Wtf?

The engine mount issue was only with the auto TL's as far as I know. The MT engine mounts seem to be stronger and less prone to failure.

My whole car shakes back and forth when I turn it on... Is this mounts? the only one I can see is the side one and it has a hairline crack on the top.
