A12 Service Quote
Hey all just wanting to know your stance on this. My A12 light just came on for my 2007 TL called the dealer and they quoted $190 for it is this a fair price?

If I recall correctly an A12 service is simply:
A1: Oil Change and tire rotation
2: Air Filters
190 is what dealers mark it up to be but it's not supposed to be that high. You can buy the filters from a vendor here, ebay, amazon, etc for 30 dollars and replace them yourself! The tire rotation is 10 dollars at discount tire and they will do them for free afterwards! An oil change should be 20-30 dollars, call up your local honda dealer and they usually have oil change specials! Usually it's $30 for synthetic oil changes if there is a special!

Which dealer? I usually ask what is included since some dealers throw in other items that may not be required. I bought mine from Jay Wolfe and it came with lifetime oil changes so I rarely have them do much else besides change the oil.

I change my own oil but sometimes have the Acura dealer do it. I buy mobil1 for $25 from walmart and they only charge $14 to change the oil for labor if I'm feeling lazy.

Well, when was the last time you replaced the cabin filter?
Replace it every year after spring
Same with intake filter may be
Do the tire rotation by yourself every 5k miles
All you have to do is get get appointment for A service whenever light goes on, no matter what letter number it says.
Top off fluids, check tire pressure, engine oil + filter, free wash.... $40
Oh don't skip service 4
Timing belt and blah blah
Service 3 is Replace transmission fluid and transfer-case fluid.

Most basic maint at Jay Wolfe isn't too bad. Their parts pricing is through the roof though. Pretty sure they charge MSRP + 25% or something like that. Letting them change the cabin filter costs too much....same for air filter. It is worth the trip for the free oil changes and free lunch, but not for the other basics. I have had good experiences with them for other repairs as long as you know the part costs up front and negotiate their prices. They were twice the price for the timing belt service than Lee's summit Honda was, so check your local places that may be closer to you.
