2008 Trans in 2006 A-spec?
I posted this last month in:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/110-diy-guide-replacing-3rd-4th-gear-pressure-switch-3g-tl-2004-2006-a-729149/
Will this fix slippage or am I too late?
Think that I blew my tranny. Only had first and second coming home from work the other day. Could the problem be as simple as the 3rd and 4th switch issues mentioned in this thread? I have the feeling that mine is cooked. Does anyone have any insight into this? Big dilemma. Still have over 4 years of payments and it's sitting in my driveway. This sucks!
Went to Acura on the weekend. They say that the clutchpack is gone. They want $6780.00 for a reman. I found an auto trans with 320000km for $1500.00. Will a 2008 trans fit into a 2006 a-spec?

So what restrictions are placed on my search for a trans? Is there a specific model number? What years will fit? Also, in the Acura Mechanics manual it says to drop the suspension, subframe and trans. I just had someone show me another manual that says to pull the engine and trans out through the top. Has anyone attemped either method? I may try the Acura way in a week or two. Should I post pics?

Finally Over!!!!!!!!!!!
Bought a used trans from an 06 TL that was written off at 8 months old. Trans bolts still had a nice shine on them. Did the swop on a farm with jack stands and made a engine brace out of 2x4's and wratchet straps. Took about 10 hours. Everything was unbolt and bolt in. There's no way I would've paid $5400 for a reman and $1400 in labour like Acura quoted. All in, trans, 7 qrts of Redline AFT D4, 1 bottle of P/S fluid, 1 bottle of coolant, $1750. Car drives like a dream. Sorry, didn't take pics.

That's awesome! This could be helpful for some people! Glad to see that it worked, and let us know how your experience with the Redline fluid goes. I am very interested to try this fluid, to see if it extends the life.......

Side Notes...
This is what we did. I am not responsible for anyone who attemps the following: (Be safe!)
1. The car must be at least 2 ft off of the ground and remain level.
2. Make an engine brace w/ 2x4's and straps (make sure you have a jack under the engine before you allow the weight onto the straps). Do not use an engine jack, it will just get in your way.
3. Theres no need to mark wires, connectors, etc. (unless you are uncomfortable), everything is pretty straight forward.
4. Build a subframe craddle out of 2x4. One piece the width of the subframe, and another nailed on top of this the width of the inside of the subframe. This will keep it from sliding to either side. Use two people to stop it from sliding backward or forward. Use a jack under the craddle to lower. Do the same for the install.
5. You will lose P/S fluid, coolant, and obviously ATF.
6. Follow the mechanics manual. ie. mark the alignment of the steering shaft. Have someone hold the steering wheel while you insert the steering yolk onto the steering shaft splines.
7. You may need to replace the exhaust bolts. Mine were all rusted, as most usually are.
8. Redline AFT D4 smells burned when its new. So do not judge your fluid by the smell.
9. Put all 7 qrts in (from dry). You may need to drain a bit of after you run it through all the gears. (I did).
10. After you make sure that there is no air lock when you replace the coolant. Keep checking the coolant level for a couple of days. Also check trans and p/s fluid. (I know, these checks are obvious.)
11. Get an alignment. Better safe than sorry.
Should only take about 10 hours for 2 people. Do not attemp on your own. Do not attemp in a single car garage. (Don't knock me, everyone knows somone who would try. Make sure that person is not around when you are doing this.)
Not sure why Acura charges 14 hours labour, when we can do it in 10 with half the resources.
Enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that you did this and you've seen with your own eyes that it was done right.
One last thing. I know it's hard, but no beers until the job is done. Again I refer to that one person that we all know.
CHEERS!

Redline ATF D4
So far, so good!
The trans shifts extremely smooth and crisp. I never knew just how fast these cars are when they are running properly. I will never use Honda trans fluid in my car again. D4 is the way to go (so far). Also, when I was at the performance shop they went through the comparison between Royal Purple and Redline. There was no difference in price and Redline had their vote of confidence, based on the chemical composition. They claimed that Redline can endure greater levels of heat for longer periods of time. Redline has definitely won me over.
