2008 TL "cricket" noise when in R or D

Hi everyone,

I have a 2008 TL (base model) with 114,000 miles that has been an excellent and reliable car, but it has recently started to make a "cricket" chirping noise when in reverse or drive. You can hear it best when the windows are open and you first shift into reverse or drive, but the noise doesn't go away after driving until the car is shifted back into park or neutral. The car drives perfectly otherwise, and I can't spot any fluid leaks. The transmission seems to shift just fine. What should I look for?

Thanks,
soarer29

Thanks. I will suggest that to the mechanic (I'm currently in an apartment complex lot).

OP Did you get this resolved?

Just noticed the same cricket like noise while in R or D on my 07TL-S. Won’t get a chance to get under and check it out till Sunday but seems like the most likely issue is a intermediate shaft heat shield.

After some more research it could possibly be a timing belt tensioner issue.
