2007 TL-S: Squealing noise when applying brakes at > 40 MPH
Hi everyone,
I have an 07 TL-S with ~ 9,800 miles on it. I would consider my driving style normal. I am not aggressive on the brakes at all and try to let the car "stop itself" as much as possible.
Over the last couple days, I noticed that if I'm driving over 40 MPH and apply the brakes, there is this high pitched squealing noise that happens (sounds like its coming from the front). It does not seem to make this noise when driving under 40 MPH.
Any ideas on what it might be? Can the front pads be shot already? I had my service level 2 recently done at acura (~ 8,000 miles; the one where they rotate the tires and are supposed to inspect the brakes). They didn't mention anything to me about the brakes needing to be replaced anytime soon.
Thanks in advance.
Dan

Go to Autozone/discount auto/<your local auto supply store> and pick up some Permatex Copper Gasket maker.
Check the brake pads, and if they're not worn, then remove the shims from the brake pads, clean them with brake cleaner, and, once dry, apply a thin film of gasket maker to the back of the shims only, then slap them on the pads.
I've done this on 3 sets of pads, and where other "brake quiet" products have failed, this works perfectly.
Please note that the next time you go to remove the pads, the gasket material will only be stuck to the shims, which is nice because you can peel it away to apply a fresh layer. Good luck.
