2007 acura tl type s timing belt replacement
07 tl type s with 104km just purchased, timing belt service was not done yet. Acura wants $950 for just the belt, tensioner, and about 4 hours of labour with value inspection and water pump inspection. They mentioned I shouldn't replace the water pump, they said it usually never needs to be replaced what's are your thoughts about this?

A few comments in no particular order:
- A Timing Belt service from an Acura Dealer for $950 is a pretty good price, however...
- The water pump, while there is a good chance it will last until the second timing belt service, is a cheap replacement while the belt is off, where as replacing it before the next timing belt service interval is rather expensive.
- I've never been a fan of a "valve inspection"; per your Owner's Manual, if the valves aren't noisy, don't bother, however, if they are noisy, have them adjusted (nearly the same effort as inspecting).
- I've had two J-Series engines and have worked on a number of others; they almost always start leaking from the cam seals before the second timing belt is due at 210,000 miles, I always recommend replacing those seals when doing the timing belt; ditto the front crank seal.

Ya that's what I was worried about dont want to pay all over for labour if something is wrong in a year or more. Maybe I can save some money of a can buy the part with the water pump and do you know of any kits with all seals and everything needed that fits a 2007 acura tl type s.

Amazon routinely has the full OEM timing belt kit for the J-Series engines (virtually all use the same kit); this will be the kit I buy next time my TL needs the service done (in about three to four more years):

do every seal you can, my rear main leaked miles after getting my 105k service done. so now i have to live with topping off oil for a few years.
do a valve adjustment
replace the water pump
replace the thermostat and do a coolant flush at the same time.
also see if there is an oil pump leak, that's another very common one and one that i have as well. i wish i had known about all the leaks when i did the TB/WP job so now i just top off every 2k miles or so

Try this, find another J-Series engine, anywhere in the world, with a half-million kilometers/three-hundred-thousand miles on it; like it or don't, believe it or not, you will be hard pressed to find a single one. From an engineering/scientific perspective, that makes your engine an outlier.

I'm only referring to cam seals. I don't recall seeing a plethora of people posting about cam seals leaking on 3G J32.
Oh, mileage wise, I agree. But not with regard to cam seal leakage on J32...

It is actually cheaper to get them all separate:
1) Serpentine Belt:
2) TB/WP Kit:
3) Cam/Crankshaft Seal Kit:
And I don't meant to thread-jack but is the "Rear Main Seal" the same as "the Crankshaft Seal"? I've been trying to find out more info. on it and I'm a little confused. Does it really require you to drop the transmission to do the "Rear Main Seal" as I've read somewhere. Or perhaps I have been mis-informed?

Oil leak
I recently replaced my TB on 2006 TL. I also resealed oil pan and oil pump. After the third day of driving I noticed the oil pan wet with oil. Could it be the cam seals?
Car has 220K miles----Thanks in advance!

I highly doubt it. Better revisit your oil pan and oil pump....
