2006 TL Reverse lights

The backup lights come on when the ignition is switched on and stay on regardless of which gear is selected. This also upsets the functioning of the outside mirror drop down feature.

This has just happened and has already attracted the attention of local police. The officer was very nice about it but it still needs to be fixed quickly.

Thanks,
Ranger

Absolutely no one heard of this problem? Lucky!! It cost $529 to have a module replaced that also controlled the outside mirrors and the memory seats. Lets hope that no such problem occurs on our new TLX.

That sounds like a bad MICU, which usually occurs when water gets into it from a bad windshield gasket, plugged-up sunroof drain lines or plugged A/C condensation line.
The most frequent cause of the plugged A/C condensation line was a mechanic plugging the line (usually with a bolt to keep water from dripping down while the car was on the rack), then forgetting to remove the bolt before returning the car to the customer.
I don't think any other AZ members else had issues with the reverse lights when their MICU went bad-- it was usually diagnosed due to problems with the outside mirror movement and driver's seat pre-sets.

Thanks to Will Y for the information on MICU. Can you tell me where it is so that I can check for moisture? Thanks for the help

Driver's side kick panel

Rather than jump straight to the MICU though, I'd check the wire loom leading into the trunk for potential fraying that's causing an inadvertent short to the reverse lights causing them to always be on. The bunch of wires should run along one side of the trunk arm
