2006 Acura Tranny Problems :(

Hi all, long time lurker here.

Been loving the TL since I bought it back in November 2006. I dropped off the car last night for an alignment at the Acura dealership, and went to pick it up today. On the way home, the car stopped speeding up (even though I kept on giving it gas, the car would just rev but not move faster).

I am scared that the transmission has gone bad on it . I have searched the forums and read threads on the older TL's and the tranny problems, but I wonder if it as common on the 2006 model year.

Also, my car has approx 73k miles on it, and from what I understand the transmission warranty on these cars is 6 years/70k (please correct me if I am wrong). In addition, I understand there was the class action lawsuit which adds 5% to the warranty, so according to that I should be covered .

Any idea how much money people have had to pay for their 3G transmissions? Also, I am surprised the tranny went bad quickly, on my 2 Hondas, the tranny's failed around 90k.

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated!

thats tough, going to depend on whats wrong with the tranny and where you need to get it fixed. Obviously you drove it home, but are you saying it won't shift up into higher gears, as in it'll be on 1st gear and thats it? Also check the tranny fluid, rule of thumb with most honda tranny,s they like their fluid levels kept close to full. Hopefully its not the clutch bands, cuz new trannys are pricy =/ ... GL

depends on what day you purchased the car in Nov. 06. I missed it by 10 days-I bought mine Nov. 17, 06. To be covered by that lawsuit you had to get the car by Nov. 7, 06.

First things first. Any lights on in the dash?

Is it slipping or just not upshifting. You can manually go through the gears to help figure this out.

Check the fluid level and fluid condition.

What kind of service history does it have?

I agree. I never heard of a TL tranny going bad, 2G or 3G, unless several of the yellow warning lights on the dash were on.
