07 type s 6sp - bogging or bucking in high rpm's and WOT
bogging or bucking after 5k rpm. it feels like sudden power loss or could almost explain it as though someones punching the brakes. some threads say APP but it sounds like thats cruising not WOT. stealership says it "could" be the o2 cause of the pcd's, is this possible?

the power loss goes in bursts and random times as long as im over 5k, i havent felt it in lower rpm..... i think. thats the best way to explain how it feels, as though its redlined. sometimes its like im hitting 3 max rpms in one band.

if ur saying its like its redlined around 5k ... my friend had a similar issue in his car. it would run perfect under the 5k rpm mark and then around 5k it would just bounce of that area. this was because his vtech cable got snagged so the car could not go into vtech. may or may not be your problem just throwing some ideas out there

There is no such thing as a vtec cable, FYI, and while we're at it, it's vtec, not vtech. Just want to clear these things up (and not trying to be a dick, either).
OP, glad you got it taken care of. Had I read this earlier, I would have suggested an oil change, but more importantly, a new/different brand filter. I have personally seen this problem twice at work, and both times, it was due to a cheap/restricted oil filter. Since vtec engagement is via oil pressure (simple terms), a bad filter can, and will, cause vtec issues. That, and low oil level itself, of course.

ok there may not be anything called a vtec cable ... but there was a cable on my buddies 03 type s that was hanging out causing the car not to go into vtec ... we zip tied it back in properly and then it started working again

If you're having low oil pressure problems due to low oil level, vtec is the least of your worries.
Sounds like a vtec issue to me.
It's not the PCDs. The ECU uses the primary 02 before the precats for fuel trim corrections so you're good there. I'm not saying it's not a bad 02 but it's not because of the PCD.

vtech was a typo but another question, my last change was not too long ago (4.6 mobil 1 & kn filter). my car was at 30% during the vtec probs. i was bone dry on oil and im pretty sure i do not leak (no oil on my garage floor). i drive extremely hard, is it even possible to burn that much off?
You're probably going to experience engine problems later on if it's the latter.
No way it can/should burn that much oil. I've taken mine to 7,000 miles and the level on the dipstick did not drop at all the whole time. Even with a track day, no difference.
Which Mobil One are you using? Replaced the PCV? Any smoke on startup, decel or acceleration?

What's bone dry? No oil on the dipstick or nothing came out when you pulled the drain plug?

Couldn't hurt since it's cheap and easy to do. Oil burning will kill your catalytic convertors and 02 sensors. Smoke during acceleration could definately be the PCV system. You don't have a CAI by chance, do you?

That's a good thing. It was starting to sound like the crank case was pressuring up.
You can change to Redline 5w-30. It will reduce oil consumption for sure but until you find the root cause it's a band-aid (and the best oil you can buy).

My car is having same issue. Have a cai all lines hooked up and for some reason vtec isn't kicking in. Rev limiter is at 5500 when should be at 6500. Oil is full but i'm at little over 3000 miles so i need a change but i've never had this happen before and i've gone to 4000 miles before a change.

it was just very low in oil, its all better now. i just don't understand where all the oil went (30% oil life). i do all the work on my car and i think im a decent mechanic, i was raised by a tranny tech. my average highway or freeway speed is 90-100 so you understand how hard i drive this car, i hit over 130mph almost 3 days week.

city of valentine 1. ive been messing with the exhaust lately, a couple weeks ago dynamax res, now magnaflow (starting to realize getting rid of rasp from 3 cat deletes is going to have to be an expensive thing). during the installs i checked the inside of the pipes and theyre fine

Same thing here. Car redlined @ 5200RPM. Funny thing to notice, is if you slowly accelerate, you can get past the 5k RPM, but when you punch it and VTEC is supposed to kick in, that's when it happens.
As VTEC runs on oil pressure, I got my oil changed first. The guy told me my filter was plugged and had no bypass.. Oil was very black. Bingo.
New oil and filter, issue resolved.
I'm doing my changes earlier now.
