Ok, I have a little annoyance and wonder if anyone else has had anything like this.

My drivers headlight beam, when hitting bumps, wiggles up and down . Actually I'd describe it as a loose filament in a traditional headlight. The passenger beam is rock steady. It sort of looks like what auto-leveling headlights do (which while driving in a MB with them drove me absolutely nuts).

It doesn't really bother me that much but I'm concerned that the HID lamp may be defective and/or fail prematurely.

This it's something I should mention to the dealer when I take it in for my 1st service?

I've noticed the same thing on mine....however I also had an 06 TL with the same deal.

 

After reading through multiple threads on headlights I found the explanation of how the high beams work (a little shutter/flap that lifts up). I played with this last night in the driveway (you can actually hear them drop down if you stand outside the car while toggling between brights or not).

Next time I'm driving at night I'll try to determine if whether or not it's that high beam flap or something in the middle of the beam.

 

I own the 06 TL and since new I noticed that over the correct sequence of bumps, the driver side headlamp would shake as if it was loose or something. I took it in to the dealer on an unrelated item and as an after thought, had them check the headlamp. They phoned me back and indicated that they have ordered a complete new headlamp assembly so I assume they found something that needed replacement.

 

Thanks, good to know. I actually have not driven at night since I posted this (can't believe it but everytime I've been out at night I wasn't driving the TL). I'll put it on my 'things to have the dealer check' when I take it in for my 1st Oil Change.
